I will be the first to admit, I had complete apathy about 10 games in with this team. They were boring to watch, no apparent leadership, no accountability, no chemistry. Just a bunch of athletes out there being athletes. I went to the TCU benefit game and left pretty disappointed - outside of Adou, we looked like a rec league team.
Fast forward to the season progressing and losing games we had no business losing, on top of just blowing chances to win other games. I was losing interest fast - so much so that I didnt even know we were playing, sometimes. My dad would text me and ask about a play, and there I was in the living room watching House Hunters with Katie.
The last two weeks or so, i've regained interest in the team after watching here and there and seeing them start to gel. They are an extremely fun group to watch, as of late. Smiling, hooping, etc. Johnell coming along as the player we expected, Adou is just a freak, Z hitting his stride in the stretch 4/5 spot, DJ becoming a complete floor general with a nose for the basket, Karter Knox fire he brings, Billy Richmond might not stuff the stat sheet but he has a swagger about him that you cannot deny.
Do I think we go win a national championship? No. But I do see the team coming along and chemistry booming enough to make a little run and get to the tournament. From there, anything is possible.
