The first game of basketball was played 125 years ago today - Dr. James Naismith organized a 9-on-9 game in Springfield, MA on December 21st, 1891. More background and the original rules.

My earliest memory of basketball is being taken to high school games in NWA by my parents when I was 2 or 3. They said I was always standing up and yelling things, by far the loudest person in our section. My dad would often take me and my brother to local courts to shoot around.

I didn't start playing basketball competitively until one day when I was about 14, I was on a court, shot a ball from about 45 feet out and it banked in, and I thought, "Maybe I'll try this game." I've never been a good shooter so my forte became distributing and defense.
