Injury & Personnel Updates

  • Bielema said they came out of Saturday's game healthy.
  • There is a possibility Cody Hollister (foot) could be made available to play Saturday.
  • D.J. Dean may not practice Tuesday but probably will in some capacity. They expect him to be full go by Wednesday, however.
  • The only notable change to the depth chart is the addition of Jared Cornelius to kickoff return man, replacing Dre Greenlaw. Cornelius has also been listed as the starter at punt return.
  • It is looking likely Keon Hatcher will return for 2016 and take a redshirt this season.
  • Bielema initially thought this class would be somewhere around 18, but it could be as high as 22, he said.
  • Bielema was asked about head trainer Matt Summers, and he said 'man, it has been a heck of a year when there's a story about your trainer. Bielema complimented Summers' bedside demeanor and said he's one of the few guys he inherited when he got here and he realized after meeting him that he had to keep him. He also gets positive comments from recruits on Summers when they've met with him.
  • Bielema said nobody was smiling more than him when Damon Mitchell caught that 49-yard touchdown. He is also their 3A, 3B tailback right now.
  • Bielema said there are nine juniors who are potential NFL players and as many as 12. He said they get five players who may submit paperwork to the NFL. Alex Collins and Hunter Henry will be two of them. He said Hunter just seems to be worried about school and football, though.
  • He said he sees them taking 'a couple' junior college players on the offensive line.
  • Defensively, there'll be a huge point of emphasis in December with recruiting. He said they knew they'd sign one running back but now they're thinking they'll sing two because potentially they could be without the top three running backs this year (Collins, Jonathan Williams and Rawleigh Williams). Bielema said a minimum of four offensive linemen will be in this class.

    More Updates
  • Bielema said when Chad Kelly is hot, the team is hot. He had a chance to watch part of last Saturday's game against Auburn live.
  • He said they were 'pumped up' on Sunday about heading over and playing this game.
  • Regarding the defense giving up 519 yards Saturday, Bielema said he doesn't get as caught up with the yardage as he does with the points. And he also added not having Santos Ramirez and D.J. Dean in there as well as not playing so many regulars in the second half helped in them giving up so many yards. Bielema also said they're trying to coach some young players on defense and Ryan Pulley in particular had a lot of learning moments and growth.
  • They have played 8-10 defensive linemen this season as regulars as opposed to playing six last season, which is one reason they don't have a guy with huge numbers. Arkansas still ranks lowly in the country in sacks.
  • Bielema said it's not just Laquon Treadwell as Kelly has several talented targets. He said they also run the ball well. He also pointed to Kelly's ability to run the ball, which is an added element they did not have last season.
  • Bielema said for them in recruiting when they're going against a certain type of school, they point out the number of reps they will play versus another school. On the flip side, it keeps his players fresher against those opponents. Arkansas' offense has played 536 snaps this season. Ole Miss' defense has been on the field for 706 snaps. The Rebels have also not had a bye week and this is Week 10. Just to note, Arkansas' defense has played 523 snaps.
