– Let’s start with the portal situation. I’ve been told that even if things remain the same on staff, Arkansas is likely to lose one key offensive contributor and three key defensive contributors. Naturally, there will be more portal entries, but these are four potential losses of significant contributors. While I won’t name names yet, I felt it was important to make you aware of this possibility.

– When it comes to Bobby Petrino, I’m told that if he accepts the head coaching job at Charlotte, Arkansas will face a wave of decommitments on the offensive side of the ball almost immediately, which wouldn’t necessarily be surprising. Petrino is one of the top finalists for the job, and it seems the 49ers want to make an announcement in the next 24 hours. I’ve also heard that interim head coach Tim Brewster has been vying for the position.

– On the defensive side, Florida State’s defensive coordinator search is focused on two top candidates: Miami linebackers coach Derek Nicholson and Georgia Tech defensive coordinator Tyler Santucci. If those options fall through, I could see Travis Williams coming into the mix, but for now, it doesn’t appear he’s prioritized. Nicholson, an FSU alum, has been described by sources as “the man to beat,” while Santucci is also considered a top contender. The Seminoles did surprise some people with their hire of Gus Malzahn, so it will be interesting to see where they go here. With Malzahn going to FSU, the UCF head coach job is now open, and Williams came to Arkansas after most-recently serving as defensive coordinator for the Golden Knights.

UPDATE: Florida State goes with former Nebraska DC Tony White. All eyes now turn to UCF for Travis Williams.
