This guy is crazy. If he touches LSU football the natives will storm the governor's mansion and take him the the South Louisiana swamps and throw his ass out in the middle of them with lamb chops tied to his ass.

I think the main issue is the school will be out of money, not so much him doing it. If the school is bankrupt there will be no football my default.

Smart move, actually. If you want something done, you threaten football in the south. People will be selling kidneys to come up with the money to save football.

Notice the Gov waited til just AFTER NSD to come out with this. How do you think it would've affected recruiting if he would have said students athletes will receive an incomplete grade for their classes if the budget is not approved.

Could it be that he is addressing the rampant waste and fraud that has become such a staple in modern government these days? Raising taxes just makes it worse, not better.
Lsu had a republican governor and legislature for 8 years and cut and cut and cut and now since they have a balanced budget amendment, Jindal raided other funds to pay for his cuts...which btw never work...now oil prices are down and there is no more to be cut and the coffers are dry. Hundreds of thousands of rural swamplanders would be mobilized on their lawnmowers and on the governors front lawn screaming some strange mixture of French/Cajun/English with pitch forks demanding his head within 15 minutes. Good luck with that.
The way I understand it, he's not directly threatening LSU football. It wouldn't make sense as LSU football is a money maker and it would be political suicide to go after LSU football in Louisiana.
However, the university runs out of money in April unless a budget gets passed. The university would then have to issue incompletes on all of the student's transcripts. LSU football players would be academically ineligible because they (and every other student) completed no classes in this semester.
The governor is just bringing up a worst case scenario if a budget doesn't get passed. However, it seems like this was a political mistake, as all the tweets and stories seem to be portraying it as "If you don't pass my budget I will shut down LSU football" rather than "If a budget doesn't get passed LSU football can't happen because the university will have to end its spring semester early."

There's no way in hell LSU football will be discontinued. The program makes plenty of money, and this guy would be lynched if he tried to end the Golden Goose.
You're right but if none of the players are eligible they won't be playing. It won't happen but that's the issue.
Jindal basically destroyed the higher ed system in Louisiana. The Gov is not threatening to cancel football. He is pointing out the Football will not happen if the school is not funded and can't open. Here is a more detailed story on the issue.

There is a reason Jindal is below 40% approval right now. He has classic Government Dysmorphic Disorder where the subject believes government is fat no matter how skinny it really is. He cut govt to the bone and removed six ribs in the process. To him, attractive government kinda looks like this:
What does this even mean? You realize there is more than one measurement of "economy" and that the economy is a combination of economic indicators and not a stand-alone entity, right?

You support a president that has taken a 4 trillion dollar debt and made it 20 trillion in 7 years. We are shipping 150 billion in borrowed money to an enemy country that vows to develop nukes to blow us and Israel out of existence. You are hardly equipped to be a beacon of fiscal responsibility.

The difference is that Jindal inherited a decent economy and then broke it. Obama inherited an economic collapse and has improved it. I don't like everything he has done, but he has done well within the scope of choices presented.

On what freaking planet is raising debt 400% improving anything? If I run up every line of credit I have and max out all my credit cards to the point that 40% of my income goes to paying interest on my debt, what have I improved? He has our country on the verge of bankruptcy and you call it improvement.

Regan gets a bad rap too. Regan and Obama both did what they needed to do to fix the issues at hand. Regan had stagflation. His strategy worked, but was expensive. Likewise, Obama had a collapsed economy that would not have improved had government eliminated the third leg of the economy - govt spending. What I find more impressive about Obama is that his deficit has reduced almost every year. We should hold the line with the next President and really commit to reducing the debt and not just the deficit. But I can't fault Obama or Regan for being handed turd sandwiches and being told their breath stinks.
You are not a government. You operate under a different set of rules since you do not print money nor collateralize debt through a GDP of collective wealth.
Regardless, Jindal broke Louisiana. It has never been much, but he blew that jalopy completely up.
