To begin the initial meeting with Coach Nutt, Kevin Trainor asked for a moment of silence for the loss of Paul Eells and the writer from Harrison (who's name escapes me) who always is given the courtesy of asking the first question.
Darren McFadden was not there.
Fred Bledsoe is still on the team (contrary to reports) and was in attendance.
The O-Line and D-Line were having a great time together. They seem like they are a cohesive unit even as friends while off the field and just were very comfortable about each other.
Chris Houston weighs 180 pounds, can bench 450 and squat 400. It came out of his own mouth and I was amazed.
David Bazzel was running around like an 18-year-old. I assume he was upstairs working out because he was pumped and just had so much energy. I wish I had half his energy and half his physique. That man could be 1st team All-SEC right now.
Keith Jackson, Jr looked VERY VERY good. Great shape, very thick arms and is extremely focused. He has very large tattoos on each of his upper arms in tribute to his baby girl.
Jamaal Anderson looked like a brick house. He is up to 283 now and to think, he arrived on campus as a WR and 200 lbs. He won't be pushed around by anyone this year. Look for HUGE things from him this year.
Zac Tubbs. I asked him if he would take a picture with me while grabbing my boob. lol. We both laughed like crazy over that one. He said his ankles don't bother him whatsoever and with him taking last year off, he has gotten over the initial catiousness of putting weight on his ankles and going full force. Look for some great things from him this year, also. This is his last year and he'll be leaving it all out on the field.
Peyton Hillis looks very good. Very toned and very focused. He mentioned he'd not been to a bowl game since he's been here and he's looking forwar dto one this year if everything goes well. When asked about his personal goals, he said all he wanted to do was win.
Coach Nutt said Hillis will still be played at a variety of positions. Halfback, fullback, in the slot, etc. He's one of the best receivers on the team and he'll be fully utilized.
Robert Johnson says he's feeling much more comfortable this year and is ready to get the season going. Coach Nutt said Robert is still a little sore after practice and he gets treatment immediately following practice and then he's good to go for the next day.
Casey Dick seemed a little apprehensive today in answering questions as a whole. Maybe it was just me, though, or maybe that's just how he is. I'm not sure. He said his back does not bother his one single bit and he's good to go.
Mitch Mustain looked really good. Very comfortable behind the camera and just handled himself well considering so much pressure has been placed on him. His mother should be very proud.
One guy asked Coach Nutt if he'd agree if this was the msot talented set of quarterbacks we've had since 1994 with Barry Lunney, Jr., Jason Allen and Mike Cherry. He said that's about right. All three of the QB's then were fully capable of getting the job done and the same can be said about the three today.
Coach Nutt said he looks to name a #1 and #2 QB in about a week and a half and then start focusing on them and getting them prepared for Sept 2nd.
All the players we (KATV) interviewed said they were excited about USC and there was no chance they would come in here and embarass us in our house. None. Zero.
Overall, a really fun time, indeed. Video/Audio coming later...
