Bobby Petrino gave it to us, we have to have speed...speed...speed!! He put athletes with scheme and got play-makers the ball in one on one situations by alignment and or motion. Up front on the OL and DL you have to have football players that have quickness and strength.

The footprint!!

Right now to meet the requirements for the blueprint for success at Arkansas you have to do exactly what Coach Morris and Staff are doing right now. Turn over every stone and use every connection you have to find speed in Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. This is how you build a team at Arkansas that can compete in the SEC West. There is a lot of kids in these three regions that have tons of speed that might get overlooked due to competition they play, not going to camps, style of offense they run at their high school, or other factors..

How Chad Morris can take speed and make it work...

In this scheme that Morris runs he is able to isolate kids one on one schematically and neutralize the stars by their name. Alabama is the perfect example (and why they sometimes struggle with these type teams) They have tons of NFL talented players who get to make all their commitments on the recruiting shows and they get 5 star after 5 star player. Then they match-up against an Arkansas under Bret Bielema and Arkansas has zero shot. Because Saban and his defensive genius can mix and match with personnel groupings; and as they slowly and methodically walk their way up to the line Bama can get their calls in and get 7 to 8 5 stars inside the tackle box. Yes occasionally you might spring one because of a missed tackle or assignment, but it won't happen often. At that point stars do matter, because when you have that much NFL talent against a team with little to no NFL talent you are going to get crushed when they can have their way.

Now you insert the type of offense Coach Morris is bringing, and you get a lot of speed into the fold. You put 4 and 5 wide outs with a mobile quarterback who hardly subs and goes faster than they can get the calls in and you have the recipe for causing them trouble.

Example of how this works:

Lets say Arkansas is playing Bama and we are showing a 21 personnel grouping with this formation:

Clemson_Spread_Doubles_medium.jpg

so your 21 personnel grouping is:
9: Martin
3: Hammonds
5: CJ O'Grady
2. Jordan Jones
4 Chase Hayden
the Q is Gerry Bohannon

(This just merely and example)

You have 6 play-makers on the field that all have good speed. Then you are taking all of those Alabama 6'2 260 LB's that run 4.5 and getting them in open space 1 on 1 with a guy that is as fast or a bit faster. If they are forced by your tempo to cover those guys up because they can't substitute then it puts them in uncomfortable situations. Then it also opens up the box to make your offensive line have a much easier job, to where they may have 5 guys in the box because of Saban's split safety coverage's and alignment. Now all your asking those linemen to do is block that one guy 4 or 5 star and not 3 or 4 of them because of formation. This also opens up running lanes for Bohannon and give us a chance to get isolations with our speed against their speed. I don't care how "GOOD" you are in a team is playing at that kind of tempo a tired kid makes mistakes, regardless of how good he is or isn't. You will not always beat those bama kids in open space, but at least it gives you a chance. Where with the old scheme it didn't give you a chance at all. You look back at the Bobby P model and it worked against almost everyone we played. Yes we only got close once against Bama, but I watched us jump all over them by spreading the field and getting speed in space. And now we are going to put more speed in even more space according to scheme than he did. We won't be Bama consistently (no one does or will) but I bet we will finally give them fits.

Summary:

The faster we get in recruiting and the more we can disrupt on defense with speed. Schematically will at least give us a fighting chance against those teams like BAMA's. Again you neutralize the advantage they have with stars and talent with scheme and speed.
