-This site grew more this year than it has the past three years combined.
-The 30 days leading up to national signing day, HawgSports.com was No. 3 in the entire network in new signups.
-On national signing day, HawgSports.com was No. 1 in the entire network in new signups.
What I'm getting at is that is a lot of new traffic and new posters, a lot of new names. Everyone needs to know there is a certain way we do things here.
Even though this town is bigger, we still want to maintain that small town friendly feel. And it is taking some time to sort through some things, but we are getting a handle on it I assure you.
I tried to go the 'clean up route,' but some just aren't getting the message. I've had to remove a couple of problem posters and I will do it with more posters if I don't like the direction they're taking this board. This is The Razor's Edge, the BEST Razorback fan board on the internet for a decade bar none, and I'm not going to sit here and let a few people ruin the spirit of this board while taking our best posters down the same road with them. It has gotten better since NSD, but it's still not where I want it.
Here are a few guidelines I've sent out to our moderators to be more strict with, but I would appreciate even more the membership understanding that if you're going to be a jerk or try to incite a riot or call someone an idiot or the like for expressing a well-though opinion, maybe this place isn't for you.
Here are some simple guidelines, and then I'll re-post our forum policies below.
No. 1, do not be discouraged by what you are about to read. These policies are in place to make this place FUN and entertaining. We do not want to limit your speech, we want to enhance it. Those of you who have been with us a while, you understand how it's supposed to be. You understand that I'm talking to 10% of this board and not 90% because those 10% can make it seem like 90% when things go sour. I hate to make posts like this, but this one's needed. Some of the threads you may be wondering about have been deleted, some fall through the cracks, however.
No. 2, don't make a post like 'this team sucks' and leave it at that. If you're going to make a post complaining about something, put some thought into it. It better have some merit in the message. You need to make a point by making a well-thought out post. We had a poster on here who made excessive one-line posts and the sole purpose was to create in-fighting.
No. 3, if you feel the need to be a jerk to another poster because of their opinion, don't post it. You can have a healthy debate and keep it on the post and not the poster.
No. 4, If you've got a problem with another poster, email me. We don't see everything, but we try to see most of what is out there. Sometimes we miss poster trends. Like if a guy is consistently being a jerk, we want to know about these issues.
No. 5, Whether you like it or not, we encourage good spirited conversation, healthy debate, humor and inside information. There is room for constant doom and gloom. Like it or not this site isn't going to become a constant source of negativity. There is no room for negative opinions, but this place isn't enjoyable when the whole board is negative. I'm not having our good posters come on here and not enjoy being here because of an overwhelming negative tone.
Below are our forum rules and suggestions in more detail. Also understand that I've been running this forum for a decade. If I see a problem or if I see something needs to be done for the betterment of this board, I will do it. I don't want to have to be like this. It's not my personality. I'd like it if everybody could act like they would act in person, that's essentially what I'm asking. I tried to post a nice message earlier in the month that everything would calm down and it has, but I'm still not satisfied.
