This is a free shot at number one. We aren't desperate for a good win like we were going into the Michigan game. This is a free space and if we happen to get it, it will be a historic win we get to take into two more big home games and a chance to really get off to a great start in league play. It seems like it has been forever since we started well in SEC play. Even Muss' good team would start 1-3 1-4 0-3 etc . I think The team that beat KU to get to the sweet 16 started 1-6!. It would be nice to give ourselves a little breathing room when Feb arrives. We have had some history book type games against top ranked teams but I'm not sure we have beaten a number one team on the road. Great chance here.
I don't think Tennessee is the best team in the country but they are very good and this will be a tough one to land. Any SEC game on the road will be tough no matter who it is but this is a very good team we are going up against in a place we have had very very limited success. Even our national title game needed a final second Thurman three to win in Knoxville against a bad Tennessee team. They seem to get up for us and they've also been much better than we have for the most part of the last 10 years or so. Always a battle with Tennessee. I do not look forward to battling college hoops refs on the road in SEC play.
Tennessee is very good but so was Michigan and so are we. We know we will always have a chance with this crew if we have all our bullets in the gun. Looks like Nelly will play and that is a huge boost. Not sure how effective he will be with all the time off but its something.
You know what? Screw it. Our dudes will overwhelm them late. I think our guys know how big this one it and what a boost it would be. If our young guys don't get shaken by the crowd, we can take them down.
