UPDATES: Sam Pittman Live

Jayden Johnson and Joshua Braun are the players who will speak.

Pittman said fall camp has gone really well. They're down to six practices before the first game of the season against UAPB.

Pittman said Jayden Johnson had a root canal today and still went through practice.

"You don't have to, but that's what a good leader does."

Pitt said Petrino is a genius at calling plays, and he's got an aura around him and the kids really believe in him.

Pitt said they looked at four different QBs in the portal and they chose Green. Called it a "wonderful" decision by Petrino to go get him.

Next week's Sam Pittman Live will be on Tuesday night because of the early kickoff on Thursday.

Pitt said Monte Harrison had a birthday last week (29 years old). Officially the third-oldest guy on the team behind him and Petrino.

Said he's done a great job. The toll football has taken on his body at his age is different, but he got into a groove and has come along well.

Pitt said they're getting used to the helmet communication systems. Said part of the reason they implemented it in college football is to cut down on sign stealing, so huddling more will effectively cut that out entirely (Petrino said this yesterday as well).

Pitt said he likes the offensive line. They're gelling together really well. Mentioned Joshua Braun is tough, played hurt last season.

Pitt mentioned the running back room has a good blend of size and speed. All five (Braylon Russell, Ja'Quinden Jackson, Rodney Hill, Rashod Dubinion and Tyrell Reed) are capable of running the ball well in their own ways.

Johnson said he's tough, didn't feel his root canal during practice. Pain meds wore off at 1 and he practiced at 4.

Braun said you're never going to be 100% healthy, you just have to go out and perform.

Braun said the offensive line room is the best since he started college. Said he wishes he had Eric Mateos as his OL coach all four of his college years.

Braun de-committed from Georgia after Pittman left to come to Arkansas, and he always had it in his mind if the chance came to play for Pittman he would take it, which is how he ended up at Arkansas.

Braun said coach Petrino's philosophy is that every time they touch the ball they should score. Said he brings a fire to the offense and they live up to the standard.

Johnson said before they go out every day, he tells the DBs to take shots on the ball and try to force turnovers

Johnson is taking all online classes, which helps him focus more on football.

Braun said he graduated before he transferred so he can get his MBA here at Arkansas. He should graduate this December.

Johnson said the team goals are more important than his personal ones. He knows if the team does well, they all win.

For next Thursday, they're focusing on starting fast and getting the ball back to the offense.

Braun said all the team goals they have boil down to winning.

Pittman mentioned all of the defensive linemen and said he's excited about the position group. They're two-deep at defensive end and 2 and a half inside.

He added the strength of the defense is the front seven, but the talent in the secondary also allows for T-Will to throw a lot of different coverage looks as well.

Said Jaylon Braxton is a great leader even as a younger guy heading into his second season.

Trivia question: The last time the Razorbacks played UAPB was in 2021. Who led the Hogs in tackles that game?

Pitt said Devin Bale has earned the punting spot. Sam Dubwig has done well, too. There's still a kicking battle. Bale will handle kickoff duties.

Pittman said the better athletes you have the better your special teams are, and they are more athletic than in years past.

Mentioned Sategna as one who should have a great year returning punts.

Pitt said Embracing the Hog means accountability and mental toughness, both the coaches and the players.

That's all for Sam Pittman Live. Maybe I'll show up to Catfish Hole one of these weeks so I can snag some hush puppies.
