I was in Calgary, Canada. I had just won Song of the Year at the Canadian Country Music Awards the night before...so I went to bed on a major high. The next morning, I woke up, turned the tv on, and saw the first tower on fire...then not long after, a plane flew into the other tower. Went from one of the most exciting nights to one of the most horrible mornings.
There were a bunch of us from Nashville at that convention center hotel...and we all sat in the hallway and cried and talked about getting back home. All of the Canadian citizens would stop and talk to us and share their feelings.
A friend and I got one of the last rental cars from the airport and drove back to Nashville...a straight 45 hours without stopping (taking turns sleeping and driving).
