BB Recruiting 2025 Transfer Portal Big Board

These are players who make sense for Arkansas to target one way or another AND are more likely than not to enter the transfer portal. Also a section for players to begin monitoring with rumblings of interest leading up to the portal contact window.

Note: this is not in any way, shape, or form suggesting that Arkansas has been in contact with these players before the season has ended or before the portal has opened. This is just a list of players who: 1) fill a position of need, 2) have a relationship with the staff, 3) are from the state, or 4) are players looking to jump to a bigger conference

College Baseball 2025

What non-hog games have your attention this weekend? Any other teams you follow or root for? Any bets anyone likes?

I have Virginia at 25-1 and 22.5-1 to win it all. The line was so off on them and now it is down to 9/1 to 12/1 depending on the book.

Clemson- Ok St, Ole Miss vs Arizona and Vandy vs GCU are about the only good games tomorrow. I'm waiting on lines for Clemson and Vandy. Typically SEC teams don't do well when they travel out West for some reason.

For the season, I'd watch out for Florida. Seem to be under the radar this year. I've got Tennessee going back to back. I think they have something going on from a player development standpoint that is just better than everyone else.

Also, if you aren't participating in @Chauvinist Pig College Dickheat thread on The Main Board, you are missing out.

DVH Appreciation

For having the SAC to sit Diggs. Diggs hasn’t played well and DVH isn’t gonna give him time to figure it out while someone else can out perform him now. No way Pittman would do anything like that. I also believe DVH deserves credit for realizing that mid-week games matter as much as the SEC tournament and playing more bench players. I feel really good about this year

Wife's New Side Gig

My wife is a Disney Planner. If any of you are wanting to take your family and want to make the process a little easier hit me up and Ill put you in contact with her.

- No cost to you, and hopefully she can save you some money.
- She is paid by Disney to make your planning process easier.
- If you haven't booked one of these trips there is a lot to know and working with her will help things go smoothly.
- She never once jinxed the hogs out of a Final 4, which is not something everyone here can say

Football Arkansas needs big step from Ian Geffrard

Arkansas third year defensive tackle Ian Geffrard is hoping to be a key part of the Hogs' interior defensive line in 2025 after two development years in Fayetteville.

In the transfer portal era, Geffrard went the old-fashioned way and elected to stay in Fayetteville and be loyal to head coach Sam Pittman and defensive line coach Deke Adams. The 6-foot-5, 389-pound native of Mableton, Georgia, has the size and athleticism to be a game-wrecker if everything clicks.

Following a redshirt season in 2023 as a true freshman, Geffrard appeared in 12 of the team's 13 games during the 7-6 campaign that was capped off with a Liberty Bowl win over Texas Tech last year. He finished the season with 13 total tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss.

Geffrard logged at least 20 snaps on defense in four different games and he tallied 191 total defensive snaps, according to Pro Football Focus. That number should see a big jump this year. He also recorded five total pressure and four quarterback hurries.

“Personally I like the number of snaps that I’m getting,” Geffrard said Tuesday. “From there it’s just about everybody else and seeing if we can get more numbers for everybody else who needs them or what we think will be best to put on the field.”

According to Geffrard, technique has been the focus over the offseason.

“Me and Coach Adams talk a lot about just being violent and knocking back,” Geffrard said.” Just textbook football really and so it’s funny because it’s not supposed to be that hard to just push a guy back. But at the same time it took so many days to get here and realize like, ‘Oh, I can do this better. I can do this better.’ From there it’s just about fine tuning and then from there it’s playing to the best of my ability.”

It's hard to ignore the size of Geffrard. Managing his weight has been a key focus since he arrived on campus in 2024 at 397 pounds. He said he's currently at 382 pounds with the goal of getting down to 370 by the end of spring.

“My body fat percentage I’d say, well, last time I did the scan it was about a month ago and it was like 32 percent body fat,” Geffrard said. “That’s where I’m at right now. But me and (strength coach Ben Sowders) are still working, still working to get it down. My goal is to be about 370 by maybe the end of spring ball. I don’t know about that one but we’ll see. We’ll see what happens when we get to the summer workouts.”

A former three-star prospect from Whitefield Academy (Ga.), Geffrard played both offensive line and defensive line in high school. Some might remember him doing a hand stand during his official visit to Arkansas, which was a brief display of his athletic ability given his size.

“I kind of just winged it, Geffrard said of the hand stand. “I tried a little bit… I knew I could do a cartwheel, so I was like, ‘It’s easy. Just stand still next time. Don’t go all the way.”

The Razorbacks are continuing spring practices in Fayetteville to prepare for the Red-White spring game April 19 at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville.

Arkansas Spring Practice Notebook No. 7

Notes/Tidbits

The Rundown

Practice officially began at approximately 3:50 p.m. CT and we walked out around 5:50 p.m. CT. We watched individual drills, fastball, one-on-ones, seven-on-seven, red zone work, blitz drills and two minute drills.

Two Minute

At the end of practice, they went through get-the-ball-back and two minute drills with the first and second team groups. We saw running back Mike Washington have a breakaway run on a toss play that he could've scored on, but he got down in field goal range instead (situation had them down by two).

Quarterback KJ Jackson targeted Stanford transfer receiver Ismael Cisse on four of the five plays during one of the second team offense's two minute drives. Cisse has a knack for getting open and also making tough catches when he needs to. He could develop into a solid receiver.

Coaches fired up

While we are not allowed to report on anything said by players or coaches on the field during practice per UA policy, we can let readers know that offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino and offensive line coach Eric Mateos were both fired up during Tuesday's practice.

HawgBeat observed Petrino during the offensive groups practicing read option plays, and the Hogs' play caller was very unpleased more often than not, it seemed. Mateos let his emotion show during the two minute drill.

Madden Iamaleava looked really good

Freshman quarterback Madden Iamaleava really impressed in Tuesday’s practice. The 6-foot-3, 191-pound California native had some dimes that hit the receivers in stride and threw several touchdowns in the 1-on-1 work. From when practice started, he completed his first eight passes before he had his first errant throw.

Through all seven practices this spring, Iamaleava has gotten more comfortable and has settled in. It makes sense because he hasn’t played since his junior year of high school, but he’s coming along quicker than what I’d initially thought he would.

Wind gets the better of the kickers

It was an extremely windy day in Fayetteville and that was most evident when the kickers got their chances at the end of the two-minute drills. Both freshman Scott Starzyk and redshirt junior Blake Ford missed field goals, with Starzyk’s being a 37-yard attempt and Ford’s being a 40-yard attempt.

Both kicks were wide left, and they seemed to get killed by the wind the closer they got to the uprights.

-----------

Notable plays

- During the 1-on-1 portion, Iamaleava found Krosse Johnson down the left sideline for a touchdown with Miguel Mitchell in coverage. It's probably the throw of the spring so far.

- Taylen Green hit Raylen Sharpe for a touchdown on the right sideline for a touchdown with Quentavius Scandrett in coverage.

- It’s worth noting wind may have helped, but Devin Bale had two 60-ish yard punts in a row.

- Miguel Mitchell picked off a pass from Grayson Wilson during the 11-on-11 portion.

- During the situational work, Anton Pierce made a really nice pass breakup on a throw from Iamaleava.

- Iamaleava hit Johnson again with a well-placed ball over the middle for a 20-yard gain.

- Scandrett picked off a pass from Blake Boda during 11-on-11 work.

- Iamaleava threw a touchdown pass to O’Mega Blake during 11-on-11.

- Ismael Cisse caught a pass from Green on the left sideline with a defender draped all over him.

- During the two-minute drill portion of practice, Green threw a pass to Kam Shanks, who bobbled it five times before he secured it for a catch. It was only a 10-yard gain, but the catch was impressive.

- Mike Washington broke free from the defense during the two-minute drill that he would have scored on if he didn’t intentionally go down to set up a field goal.

Hoops Acuff, Thomas show out in McDonald's All-American Game

The next step for five-star guards Darius Acuff Jr. and Meleek Thomas is to step foot on campus, as the two Arkansas signees competed in the McDonald's All-American Game on Tuesday night.

Acuff and Thomas were pitted against each other, as Acuff played for the West Team while Thomas played for the East Team. The West Team won 105-92, which ended a four-game skid against the East Team.

Thomas didn't fill up the box score, as he finished with just six points and four rebounds in 15 minutes, but Acuff ended up tied for third in scoring with 12 points plus four assists.

While Thomas, a proud Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, native, didn't score a ton, he did show off his shot-making ability, especially from deep.

That was Thomas' only three-point make of the game, but he also only attempted two. He added a layup and split a pair of free throws to account for the rest of his scoring.

Acuff had more usage for the East Team and showed what he's capable of. He didn't have a great game from an efficiency standpoint — just 4-of-14 from the field and 1-of-8 from deep — but he made up for that with his strong passing.

The Detroit, Michigan, native's court vision was exceptional, and he also showed his ability to put the ball on the deck and beat his man off the dribble.

It's also worth noting that Arkansas target five-star forward Nate Ament, one of the two uncommitted prospects on the floor Tuesday night, also had a strong game and finished with 12 points, three rebounds, one assist and one steal.

Ament initially planned to make his college announcement on April 1, but decided to push that decision back. Arkansas is in the thick of it for his services along with Duke, Kentucky and Louisville.

Arkansas big man Zvonimir Ivisic to enter transfer portal

Screenshot 2025-03-31 at 2.02.59 PM.png

The Arkansas basketball program is losing its second player to the portal, as big man Zvonimir Ivisic confirmed Monday his intentions to transfer.

A 7-foot-2, 245-pound forward from Vodice, Croatia, Big Z followed coach John Calipari from Kentucky to Arkansas last offseason. In his only year with the Hoop Hogs, Ivisic averaged 8.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game.

He scored a season-high 27 points against Alabama on Feb. 8 and racked up 25 points just one game later against LSU on Feb. 12. Despite only scoring two total points during the Razorbacks' NCAA Tournament run, Ivisic still managed 16 double-digit games in 2024-25.

Ivisic is the second Razorback to enter the transfer portal since Arkansas' season ended last Thursday. Freshman guard Casmir Chavis announced his transfer intentions Sunday.

Arkansas picks up midweek win over Grambling State, 7-4

1743559652935.png

The No. 2 Arkansas Razorbacks (27-3, 8-1 SEC) earned a 7-4 win Tuesday evening over the Grambling State Tigers (10-17, 6-3 SWAC) at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock.

Sophomore starting right-handed pitcher Tate McGuire was solid in his first start, as he completed 4.0 innings with four strikeouts, two walks, one hit and one earned run.

Three pitchers combined for four innings of relief out of the bullpen, and they combined for seven punchouts, two walks, five hits and three earned runs.

Three Razorbacks at the top of the lineup — Charles Davalan and Wehiwa and Kuhio Aloy — each notched two hits in the game. As a team, the Razorbacks finished 7-for-29 at the plate, 0-for-8 with two outs, 4-for-12 with runners on base and 3-for-10 with runners in scoring position.

Arkansas vs. Grambling

The No. 2 Arkansas Razorbacks (26-3, 8-1 SEC) will face Grambling State (10-16, 6-3 SWAC) in a midweek bout for the second time this season Tuesday at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock.

Home to the Seattle Mariners' Double-A affiliate Arkansas Travelers, CHI St. Vincent Field has been kind to the Diamond Hogs in recent seasons. Arkansas is 5-1 in the Natural State's capital city since 2017, with two wins over Grambling State and the only loss coming to Lipscomb in 2023.

Coach Dave Van Horn described his ideal forecast for the game against the Tigers following Arkansas' Game 3 victory over Vanderbilt on Sunday.

"It would be nice if there was a nice west or northwest wind (in Dickey-Stephens Park) because if it's out of the south in baseball lingo, it's a graveyard," Van Horn said. "You can't hit it out of there hardly. It is what it is. It's the same for both teams."

Starting for the Razorbacks will be sophomore right-hander Tate McGuire, who sports a 3.97 ERA in 11.1 IP this season. He's racked up nine strikeouts, three walks and eight hits allowed in that span. This will be the second time McGuire has faced the Tigers, as he allowed an earned run on three hits in one inning against Grambling State as a freshman a year ago.

"I enjoy going to Little Rock," Van Horn said. "Fans down there, they get super excited to come watch us play and they have a good time before the game, during the game and probably till they close concession stands after the seventh inning, to be honest with you. It’ll be good for our guys"

Arkansas owns a 12-0 all-time advantage over Grambling State, and the 13th matchup between both programs Tuesday will be the 14th game the Hogs have played at Dickey-Stephens Park.

With a home SEC series against Missouri on deck, Van Horn said the team may not take everybody on the midweek trip to central Arkansas.

"We'll probably leave some of our starting pitchers home," Van Horn said. "Anybody that is maybe not available, unless they just really want to go. Go down there and get there early, pre-game, play and come on back. Then get ready for SEC play."

Arkansas signees, five-star target to play in McDonald's All-American Game

Before they head to Fayetteville to start their college careers, five-star guards Darius Acuff Jr. and Meleek Thomas will have all eyes on them in the McDonald's All-American Game on Tuesday night.

In addition to Acuff and Thomas, five-star forward target Nate Ament will also play in the game. His original plan was to announce his college decision during the game, but that decision has been delayed, he told ESPN on Monday.

The game will tip off at 8 p.m. CT from the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn and air on ESPN, but the high schoolers have been there since the weekend. They played in a scrimmage Monday leading up to the game and had some practices over the weekend.

While Acuff and Thomas will be teammates next year, they're facing off against each other on Tuesday. Acuff and Ament were named to the East roster and Thomas was named to the West roster.

Thomas said Monday that while sometimes ball-dominant players don't want to play with each other, both he and Acuff saw what could happen when they come together instead.

"In my opinion, if you got two real dogs, like, not fake dogs, real dogs, how are you going to lose when you're on (the same page)?" Thomas said. "We both think the same way."

Thomas also said while he and Acuff have been at the McDonald's All-American Game weekend, they've had the chance to sell Ament on the prospects of playing at Arkansas.

"My pitch to Nate has been, 'You want to come play with winners, and play with players that's going to be for you,'" Thomas said. "We're not just telling him to come to Arkansas just because we want another five-star, we want another very good player. I'm telling him to come to Arkansas because we feel he could be a real asset for our team."

Acuff was the first domino to drop for the Razorbacks in the class of 2025, and he committed on July 26 of last year. The Detroit native had his pick of the litter regarding the schools he could go to and chose the Hogs over offers from Kansas, Michigan, Alabama, UConn and many others.

After he committed, he went straight to work to help recruit Thomas. The two were on hand when the Arkansas football team took down Tennessee on Oct. 5, which coincided with Thomas' official visit weekend.

Thomas said the loyalty and honesty Hogs’ head coach John Calipari has shown him all throughout high school also played a big role in his decision to commit to Arkansas, which he did on Nov. 11.

"(Calipari) has been recruiting me since eighth, ninth grade," Thomas said. "He's never told a fib to me, never told me something was going to happen that didn't happen. So, when you're so genuine on your behalf, it's easy for me to just give my full commitment to that school and that staff."

Acuff and Thomas are just two of the pieces Arkansas has for its roster next season, and with the transfer portal open, the coaching staff is looking to fill more spots. Be sure to stay tuned to HawgBeat for the latest news about Arkansas basketball.

Root named Co-SEC Pitcher of the Week

Per release, Zach Root is the SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week after he twirled a career-long 7.2 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts in Friday night’s series-opening shutout win at top 25 ranked Vanderbilt, helping lead the Razorbacks to their first series sweep in Nashville since 1994.

The left-hander, who earned his team-leading fourth win and third quality start of the season, blanked the Commodores over 7.2 innings of work, the longest outing by an SEC pitcher during the week, and carried a no-hitter into the fifth. Root, who became the first Arkansas pitcher to record back-to-back starts of at least seven innings since 2022, combined with Razorbacks relief pitchers Aiden Jimenez and Dylan Carter for Arkansas’ first three-hit shutout since 2024.

Arkansas Basketball Transfer Portal Tracker - 3/31

From @DanielFair

Now that Arkansas basketball's season is over, head coach John Calipari and his staff are in the process of putting together next year’s roster.

One roster spot has already opened, as freshman guard Casmir Chavis confirmed his intentions to enter the transfer portal Sunday.

HawgBeat has already compiled a roster breakdown, which discusses what holes the Hogs need to fill, as well as how many roster spots they have to do it. This article will focus on which players who are currently in the portal have been contacted by Arkansas’ staff.

There’s a common theme among the players who have been contacted — wings and rebounders. That makes sense, as Arkansas has two incoming five-star guards in Darius Acuff Jr. and Meleek Thomas. Where the Hogs need help is in rebounding and post play, especially with center Jonas Aidoo set to graduate.

Here’s a breakdown of Arkansas' confirmed portal contacts so far...
