Reports: Sam Pittman to return in 2025

Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman will reportedly return in 2025 for a sixth season of leading the Razorback football program, according to multiple national reports. HawgBeat reported this information Nov. 11 on The Trough premium message board.

The reports come come one day before the 63-year-old is set to have surgery to repair a broken hip he's dealt with for the entire 2024 season, which resulted in a 6-6 overall record and a 3-5 mark in Southeastern Conference play for Arkansas.

Pittman owns a 29-31 overall record during his tenure in Fayetteville, which began with the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season. The Hogs went 3-7 in an SEC-only schedule to gain bowl eligibility and momentum entering Pittman's best season in 2021.

Arkansas went 9-4 with an Outback Bowl win over Penn State during Pittman's second season in 2021 and the Hogs have not reached those heights since, unfortunately. They regressed by going 7-6 the next season in 2022, but still earned a Liberty Bowl win over Kansas. Things hit an all-time low during Pittman's tenure in 2023, when the Hogs had a disastrous 4-8 season.

The Razorbacks turned things around this year with changes on the offense staff, starting with bringing Bobby Petrino back as offensive coordinator. Petrino led the nation's No. 13 total offense during the regular season.

All signs have pointed towards a return in 2025 for Pittman with bowl eligibility once again clinched for the fourth time in five seasons. Sources indicated late in the regular season that a sixth win would be enough for Pittman to return, and that's remained the same, but things always change in college football.

Arkansas will have plenty of work to do in the transfer portal, and HawgBeat will be covering the search closely on The Trough premium message board.

Pair of 2025 four-star offensive linemen set Arkansas official visit dates

Arkansas Razorbacks offensive line coach Eric Mateos is only a few months into his job in Fayetteville, but he’s hot on the recruiting trail in the class of 2025.

Two four-star offensive linemen — Connor Carty and Logan Schram — announced Thursday that they have plans to be in Arkansas for official visits from May 31 to June 2.

Both prospects hail from the state of Texas, Carty is from Prosper — near the Dallas area — while Schram is further south in Boerne, which is near the San Antonio area.

It should come as no surprise that Arkansas is recruiting the state of Texas given Mateos’ previous stop at Baylor, especially considering the lack of offensive linemen from the Lone Star State the Hogs have gotten in recent years.

In the four recruiting classes Sam Pittman has put together at Arkansas, only one offensive lineman has come from Texas in three-star Bogata native Cole Carson.

Connor Carty

Carty is ranked as the No. 214 overall player in the country, No. 35 player in the state of Texas and No. 8 guard in the country according to Rivals. He holds offers from Texas A&M, LSU, USC, Oklahoma and more in addition to the Razorbacks.

He also has an official visit to Texas A&M scheduled for the weekend following his trip to Fayetteville, June 7-9, and a trip to Texas Tech scheduled for June 14-16.

Keep an eye on Texas Tech as the main competition for Carty’s commitment. Both of his parents are Red Raider alumni and his father grew up in Lubbock.

The Red Raiders also have one of his former teammates — offensive lineman Ellis Davis — on their roster as well.

It’s worth noting that two Rivals forecasts have been made for Carty to commit to Texas A&M, too.

Logan Schram

Schram is another player that Arkansas will have to battle several schools for, as he holds offers from Texas A&M, Auburn, TCU and Tennessee in addition to the Razorbacks.

Along with the official visit to Arkansas, Schram will see TCU on May 3-5 and Texas Tech on June 7-9.

Arkansas extended its offer to Schram on Dec. 5, but it's worth noting that he's been on Mateos' radar for a while. He reported an offer from Baylor on June 25, 2022, and Schram was one of Mateos' first offers when he rejoined the Hogs' coaching staff.

Schram plays left tackle for Boerne High School, which is arguably the most important position on the line. He plays with good speed and footwork and has the length and frame that will translate well to the next level.

Texas A&M was at one point the team to beat in his recruitment, but Tennessee may be a factor down the road. Of course, given the prowess Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman has with offensive lineman, the Hogs could be a bit of a dark horse in his recruitment as well.

3-star UCLA WR commit Jace Brown flips to Arkansas

Arkansas has dipped into UCLA's 2025 recruiting class for the second time Wednesday, as three-star pass-catcher Jace Brown announced his commitment to the Razorbacks.

A 6-foot-2, 194-pound native of California, Brown joins fellow high school teammate and quarterback Madden Iamaleava in flipping to Arkansas.

Though Brown is listed as a tight end by Rivals, his smaller stature gives him the versatility to play wide receiver for Bobby Petrino's unit.

Brown was offered by programs like Arizona, Notre Dame, Utah, Washington State and others before landing with the Hogs.

Following Brown's signing, the Razorbacks' 2025 recruiting class now sits with 23 members, 21 of which have signed. The only remaining commitments are three-star athlete Markeylin Batton and three-star offensive lineman Connor Howes.

Pretty Odd Stat for Arkansas Team

Currently 29th in the country in effective shooting percentage. For a team that

One thing that's very odd for Cal, the offensive rebounding is some of the worst in the country: 283rd.

Fix the help defense, get Aidoo healthy, and get Thiero, Aidoo, and Brazile to crash the offensive boards. This team still has every piece it needs.

Head coach John Calipari's Arkansas Razorbacks (6-2) came from behind late Tuesday night to earn a 76-73 win over the Miami Hurricanes (3-5) in the SEC/ACC Challenge at the Watsco Center in Coral Gables, Florida.

Arkansas trailed for the entire game until freshman Boogie Fland hit a three to give the Razorbacks a 74-71 lead with 1:47 left in regulation. There were some late-game dramatics, but Arkansas managed to hold off the Hurricanes. Fland led the Hogs with 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting with six assists and four rebounds.

The Razorbacks shot 48.4% from the field and 47.8% from three in the game. The Hogs had 17 team assists and seven steals in the contest. Guard D.J. Wagner scored 14 points and added five assists and two rebounds.

Miami shot 48.3% from the field and the Hurricanes were 9-of-28 from three. Guard Nijel Pack led all scorers with 22 points to go with six rebounds and six assists.

Miami led for the entirety of the first half, which featured the Hurricanes shooting 50.0% from the field with four made threes and 19 points off the bench.

The Razorbacks struggled to find offense early and often in the first half, as they trailed by as much as 11 with 7:33 to play in the half. Arkansas cut the Miami lead to five points less than two minutes later, but it couldn't close the gap anymore and trailed 40-32 at halftime.

Arkansas shot 41.9% from the field in the first half, but it had seven turnovers that Miami scored 11 points off of in the period. Eight of the nine Hogs who saw the court in the first half scored at least one point.

Wagner opened the second half with a 3-pointer to cut the Hurricanes' lead to five right away. After Miami grew the lead back to nine, the Hogs went on a 7-0 run that featured two more buckets from Wagner and triggered a Hurricanes' timeout at the 14:07 mark with the deficit cut to 49-47 for Arkansas.

Miami guard Matthew Cleveland slammed home his second highlight dunk of the evening to make it a 4-point game, but Fland drained a three on the ensuing possession and then Billy Richmond III hit a bucket out of the under-12 minute timeout to cut the Hurricanes' lead to 55-54.

The Hurricanes drained a trio of threes over the next stretch of play, but Hogs' guard Johnell Davis added a pair of made buckets — including a triple — to keep Arkansas within striking distance down 66-59 with 7:06 to play.

Arkansas cut the lead to two and both teams then traded 3-pointers just before the final media timeout of the half. Miami was clinging onto 71-69 lead by that point. Out of the break, Fland hit a pair of free throws to tied the game for the first time since it was 3-3 in the first half.

The very next possession, Fland drained a three to give the Razorbacks their first lead of the game, 74-71, with 1:42 to play. Pack knocked down a shot to trim the Hogs' lead to one, but Fland then hit another shot to make the lead three again with less than a minute to play.

Arkansas forward Adou Theiro went to the free throw line with 11 seconds to play, but missed both shots to allow the Hurricanes another opportunity to tie the game, but Miami was unable to make a clutch shot late and the Razorbacks escaped with their sixth win of the year.

Up next, the Razorbacks will host UTSA on Saturday at Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. CT and the game will be streamed live on SEC Network+.

Arkansas has lost a key piece of its quarterback room, as redshirt freshman Malachi Singleton announced Monday evening his intentions to enter the transfer portal.

A 6-foot-1, 225-pound Georgia native, Singleton joined the Razorbacks as a four-star prospect out of North Cobb High School. He chose Arkansas over offers from Georgia, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Miami and others.

This season for the Hogs, Singleton played sparingly but came up clutch in Arkansas' win over No. 4 Tennessee. With starting quarterback Taylen Green injured, Singleton completed 2-of-3 passes, rushed for 15 yards and scored the game-winning touchdown on the Razorbacks' final drive.

In total, Singleton completed 21-of-28 passes for 358 yards and one touchdown this season. He did not play as a true freshman in 2023.

According to Pro Football Focus, Singleton graded out with an 80.9 offensive grade, a 69.0 pass grade and a 79.9 run grade.

Singleton is the third Hog to officially announce his intentions of entering the transfer portal, as wide receiver Davion Dozier and offensive lineman Amaury Wiggins will look for greener pastures as well when the window opens Dec. 9. Former tight ends Ty Washington and Var’keyes Gumms, who were dismissed from the team during the season, will also enter the portal.

Arkansas will now await its bowl destination, which will be revealed Sunday, Dec. 8.
