Howdy yall, I'm getting my wisdom teeth out (all four!) today at 11. Idk how quick i'm going to bounce back but just wanted to let yall know my presence will be sparse over the next couple days. I'm nervous asl

I have thoroughly enjoyed throwing myself into the baseball beat this summer. I've always covered the Diamond Hogs extensively, as you know, but I've really gone all out this summer (largely thanks to the pandemic) and it has given me the opportunity to talk to a TON of baseball people. That has not only given me a better understanding of the current Razorbacks, but the game in general.

On that note, I just had a nice conversation with John McLaren, a former manager of the Mariners and assistant coach in the MLB for about three decades. He coached incoming JUCO signee Jalen Battles over the summer and had really high praise for him defensively. Thinks he could play shortstop in the big leagues right now. Just needs the bat to come along.

I hope to start a series of stories on the Hogs and how they did this summer at some point, so I'll go into more detail when I write the story about Battles. But I just wanted to go ahead and pass that along to y'all.

Thank you again for being so into baseball and giving me an opportunity to cover it like most places cover football and men's basketball. It means a lot.
