I skipped last week's update as it was the start of fall camp and there weren't many updates to present but there's been movement this week.
Last update there were 89 prospects w/ offers still undecided, now there are 79. Of the 79, 32 are 4-stars+. The only ones from that group they're really still in the conversation for are Rayshaun Benny, Kingsley Suamataia, Ketron Jackson and Jayden Thomas. The class is ranked No.29 (9 in SEC) but maybe they'll have some movement this week if the rankings come out favorably. Arkansas hasn't gained a commitment in the 2021 class since speedy Bryce Stephens committed on August 2. (They did land two more 2022 commits since then though)
First, starting off with the QBs, someone asked about Texas potentially coming after Lucas Coley since they lost Jalen Milroe but before too much concern could be raised, the Longhorns flipped Iowa State commit Charles Wright (who the Hogs offered after Landon Rogers decommitted). Iowa State likes Coley too but I think he's 100% locked in here and ready to ride out what could be a brutal season.
AJ Green and Javion Hunt are solid, Alabama RB Kenji Christian committed to Virginia Tech today so that only leaves Cam'Ron Valdez undecided from the original RB board.
No movement on the WRs left on the board, Jayden Thomas is trending towards Notre Dame, and KeTron Jackson still trending towards Texas. The Hogs are still trying hard as ever to get him on board. Fourth spot is his if he wants it but otherwise, not sure they'll have a fourth WR this class. Dominic Lovett is likely Missouri bound and JJ Henry is a backup option idk if they'd take.
Nothing new at TE. If they get another to add with Outley I think it'll be an older guy but if they really need it for depth they can just ask Blake Kern to stay one more year.
Nothing new on the OL. Davis and Pittman are continuing to work their magic. 100% of rivals picks are in for Oregon for Suamataia, Benny's said he wants to visit but the clock is ticking and all his picks are in for homestate Michigan. NY OL Armon Bethea has spent his pandemic time losing weight, cutting off 40 pounds from his 350 playing weight from 2019.
Great news for Arkansas at defensive tackle as they made the top 5 for long-time top target Cameron Ball and then the top-6 for Albert Regis from Houston. Chad Simmons said, and I concur, that Arkansas would be the pick for Ball if he was deciding now, but we'll be waiting until the end of September for his announcement. If Regis doesn't end up at Texas I think it'll be one of the other in-state options for him.
Still no obvious positive movement on defensive ends right now. Landyn Watson went to TCU. They've still got some JUCO options available.
Done at LB from what I can tell and waiting it out at DB. Arkansas is still in the mix for Markevious Brown w/ Miami and Virginia Tech. They haven't had much contact with John Howse from Tennessee and Mukuba is still a bit of a pipedream imo.
They're still working very hard to win over punter Patrick Foley (PWO). Sending him and his fam letters all the time.
With seniors (and everybody) granted extra eligibility, this'll end up a 22-23 sized class, we'll see.
