Story Time
Last Sunday night had a friendly family game of basketball going at the house. Me and my brother vs my wife, my brother's gf, and my dad. Game for the ages. Anyway, very early into the game, my wife decides to really get down in a stance and try to put the clamps on me. I hit her with a Harden step-back so hard her feet get tangled and she falls. I laugh and show boat a bit, until she starts to scream in pain. Can't stand up. My brother and I carry her to the house. We get her on ice and some pain meds and cross our fingers she'll feel better in the morning.
I take off work Monday and Tuesday to help her get around and to watch our 18 month old daughter. She goes to her Dr on Tuesday who orders an MRI for this morning. Wednesday I go back to the office (against her wishes) but she's able to get around alright by herself. By yesterday she was walking fine without a brace and said there was minimal pain. I strongly encouraged her to cancel the MRI as it appeared to be nothing serious. I even made a point to mock her on multiple occasions for how nasty my step-back was that dropped her. At one point even made fun of her for making such a scene (screaming, being carried to the house) over a simple twisted ankle.
Fast forward to just now, she called me with MRI results. Fully torn ACL, partially torn Meniscus, and pretty large bone bruise. Surgery next Thursday and PT for the next 3-5 months. I have a feeling my asshatery in this situation will be hung over my head til my dying breath. Any advice is gladly appreciated.
