I say yes. Racism is a 2 way street....

If you vote no please give your reason as to why he shouldn't be...

Finned, by a dolphin or a shark?? I need to know specifics before I vote on this.

Re: POLL: Should Larry Johnson be banned and finned???

I must have missed it, what did Larry do? and when?

Re: POLL: Should Larry Johnson be banned and finned???

Probably banded and finned publicly. Nothing beats the racism out of you like a fin while banded.

Racism isn't a two way street. Just ask Nolan and Marcus Elliott. They cannot hide their racism yet all is good. That is why I like Charles Barkley and Morgan Freeman. They preach to quit blaming the white man for all the black mans problems. The Jesse Jacksons and Al SHarptons of the world keep the hate going . I know there are racist people out there, but the cannot be blamed for all the problems.

I missed where Larry Johnson made disparaging remarks about another race. Considering your history I hope this thread I is deleted. None the less enlighten us.

While I agree that racism goes both ways and there's way too much of it out there this isn't the time or event to argue it. Sterling got exactly what he deserved and good riddance to his sorry ass.

Not commenting directly because this situation is one where the facts pretty much speak for themselves (as to the old guy paying the price for saying stupid stuff to his exotic lover looking for whatever). But does anyone else see the irony in Silver banning Sterling?

I love it

I like what Abdul Jabbar said about the whole deal.

Is there something wrong with that?

Not at all, but they were beating it into the ground. I agree with his statement

Larry Johnson doesn't own an NBA team. That's a distinction that is obviously lost on many of you who have voted yes, but I don't imagine you'll take the time to ponder that. A racist person can own a business. A racist person can't own a basketball team in the NBA. The NBA has an image to protect and Silver absolutely did the right thing.

So the league's image begins and ends with the owners? Players, execs, and coaches can't tarnish that image but owners can? Very few fans could even begin to name more than a couple of owners but just about all of them know lots of players, coaches, and certainly know who Larry Johnson is. So who impacts the image the most, the people in the spotlight or the people in the background? The yes voters aren't the ones that lack the ability to ponder.

So a racist person can be directly affiliated with the NBA, as well as represent the entity, just not own a team......ok, got it. Thanks for the clarification

I wonder what the outcome would've been if it was Michael Jordan instead of Donald Sterling. Would they have banned the most popular player to ever play in the NBA?

So gbbaber, how bout Jay-Z? I believe he's part owner of an NBA team, and has publicly voiced his racist opinion of whites on more than one occasion. Hell the guy even wears a racist medallion around his neck while attending NBA games. I'm still waiting for the hypocrites, liberals, other members of the politically correct cult, including President Barrack, to come out and condemn his actions, and still awaiting for the NBA to fine the guy and force him to sell his shares in the team. Only I won't hold my breath.

I don't know anything about Jay Z. Whatever he does, it doesn't bother me. Sterling has a track record of this sort of thing and has become an embarrassment to the NBA. When Jay Z gets on that level, then we can talk. But I follow the NBA somewhat and haven't seen much about him.

The fact is that there is no reason to take up for someone like Donald Sterling. He doesn't need your voice. He only owned the team so that he could have access to a certain society, so he'll just take his ball and go home. He's a crappy guy. I don't see the point in defending him.

If you're defending the idea, then I can definitely see the downside to telling someone they can't own something because of their personal beliefs. The problem is that he owns an entity that is attached to a governing body, which in this case is the NBA, and the NBA has the power to control ownership. Silver exercised that to the highest extent he could, end of story. I agree with him.

I haven't seen anybody taking up for Sterling. Can you quote some of those who did?

I just don't see what he said as racist. I read his comment as: don't let pigs like Donald Sterling get you down. Focus on achievement and owning your own team. And owning the league.

While I did think that he was one of the greatest college basketball players on one of the greatest college basketball teams of all time, I haven't kept up with him and didn't even know he was with the Knicks.

This is a guy who went back to school and graduated. Then became an executive with an NBA team. He seems to be trying to take the path that MJ took with Charlotte and Washington.

Considering that 78% of the players in the league are black, what is wrong with a guy saying what he said?

Sterling's opinions were never involved with his business in the NBA. He made his black coach one of the highest paid in the NBA. Like I said his stance and opinion is wrong but he never let that cross into his business that's the only good thing I have to say about him. Now the reason for this thread is just BC one act of racism is no different than the other, the only difference between sterling and LJ is that one made the racial discrimination on Twitter for everyone to see and the other said it in a one on one conversation...

Racism is a two way street is such an interesting comment from people who have never experienced it.

I am curious if anybody on this board who is white has ever felt uncomfortable because of the color of their skin? I didn't say discriminated, just uncomfortable. Serious question.

You don't see his comments as Racist!?! Wow, that's just amazing that you could actually type that load of bs and mean it. Your entire statement is beyond dumb and racist all rolled up in a ball.

I think Sterling is a POS, but Larry Johnson is also a POS for what he said as well. Now Sterling is definitely on a whole other level but Johnson should be punished as well.

no doubt that both made comments tied to race. One comment is filled with hatred and bigotry. The other is, at worst, commentary about possible ostracization. I think that there is a huge difference.

Simply meant as a counter point, not arguing

I genuinely think that you are reading into the comment what you want to read into it.

An all black league. Let's see that would also mean only black cheerleaders, only black owners, only black ticket holders, and only black people watching it on TV. Players would make about $15,000 a year before the league would go bankrupt in about 1 year.

He specifically segregated a group of capable individuals based on their skin color. Not sure what else I need to get out of that.

What would you say if he said "We should only have White Owners?"

This is the slippery slope Cuban was talking about. NBA was protecting their brand and money yesterday but they may have made a mistake.

In a league where 78% of the players are black, I think saying that it would be great for 80% or all of the owners to be black is ok. I just think that there is a big difference between bigotry and race-based comments

Yes, I live in Memphis and the hatred for white people is really quite amazing, and scary. God forbid, If there ever is a race war, this place will be ground zero.

I have never seen such hatred for random individuals in my entire life. Maybe its the shock value after I moved from Austin, a very welcoming melting pot of a city. Either way, it is really bad here sometimes.
