Special teams question

I read on here last night that the illegal formation calls on the punt team were basically due to someone not being on the line but really was because they were not lined up straight. Which could be called on most punts in football? It did seem really odd. On one call it appeared the commentators were not sure who it was on. Anyone have any clarity on those calls? Kickoffs out of bounds and 2 block punts in 2 games are ridiculous!

Football Kiffin's Monday Presser quotes

Quick hits from RebelGrove:
Review of the game, not a lot different than after the game that night. Had a chance and had them on the ropes and have to make plays. He did throw us one and we dropped the interception. Have to make that play. Two fumbled snaps, but especially the second one with us running a play where Kenny was in the flat and it would have been a touchdown, the linebacker was looking the wrong way. It would have tied it up and kept pressure on them. Had a chance to beat them. We're getting started and a lot of work to do. Just the beginning.

I've never known the signals. Didn't even know that when I was there. I love Saban and have respect for him, but that wouldn't even help us. We call the play before they do anything. It wouldn't do us any good. By time they would relay it, we're already snapping the ball. People do it. It's not illegal. But it's for people who play slower. We did not do that. It doesn't make any sense.

Briles won't know our signals. Our defensive signals are the least of our worries. We have to tackle better and make more plays.

Confidence is fragile and our defense is struggling and we're playing great players. It's hard. It take a part of a game to play well and gain some confidence. This week hopefully we can get it back. What's in the past doesn't matter. Each week we'll play and see what happens. I look for us to be better on defense this weekend.

We do tackling in practice. We continue to work on it. This isn't an excuse, but defenses are struggling around the country. Maybe spring ball is more important for defense. Who knows. But we have to get better.

We hosted a bunch of recruits virtually. It's hard right now so we're doing everything we can think of. We may not meet any of these kids in person before they sign. The last three weeks recruiting feedback is a whole lot better. Kids are excited about our energy and the way we are playing. And on defense they can see we need players and they know they can help us win. On offense they know they can come here and know we'll have those numbers. A lot of good kids going on right now.

I don't want to rat poison the guy, but it's A plus. Matt has been excellent. He had no spring. This is all new for him. He was in a QB competition. He's not a third year starter in our system.

Haven't heard anything about the dead period ending sooner.

It was painful to kick that field goal, but it was too long. We were in fourth down mode the whole fourth quarter. We weren't going to punt, so that was painful to kick the field goal. It was good for Luke to see one go in.

We had conversations with Arkansas last December about the job. I knew their A.D. They have a lot of good young players on offense. They're doing a great job. They could have easily won against Auburn after losing 20 straight SEC games before beating State.

Hope to have Jacquez Jones back this weekend. We missed him.

Thank you, Hunter.

I'd like to thank Hunter Yurachek for the following:
  1. For your scripted response we see from AD's throughout CFB. #textbook

  2. For exhausting all possible scenarios in under 18 hrs. #cheersmate

  3. For encouraging us to move on. #feelsgreat.

  4. For typing a message via twitter to your fan base vs a video. #realpersonal

  5. For failing to realize you could be the voice of Arkansas. #easyout

  6. For following the money and corruption that is SEC football. #justmeansmore

  7. For allowing me to be a fan of this. #grateful

  8. For trying. #admirable

  9. For giving up. #unacceptable

This is not your fault let me be clear, but I was eager to hear from our AD - to show fight not only privately, but publicly. I don't see or feel that emotion in a tweet.

Sam Pittman is right when he says this is a PROUD DAMN state. Figure it out.

Going in to this season I assume all of the Razorback Faithful were excited

to actually have a designated special teams coach...I even opined that special teams play could make the difference in the W/L column in 2-3 in very close games this season...never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined that we would perform even WORSE than last year...I wish someone on this board behind the scenes who actually knows what has gone wrong could enlighten us ...Can we PLEASE find a dedicated kicker who can put the ball in the end zone like 80-90 % of the time so that the ball doesn't sail out of bounds or lead to poor kick-off coverage putting the other team at the 35 or 40 yard line...everybody else does so why can't we ??? Also, it is silly NOT to have a backup QB handle the snap for FG's with at least having the threat of pulling up and passing the ball or running with it...who is to say that the bobbled snap after our 1st TD would not have been handled cleanly by a skilled player( instead of the punter) which lead to going for 2 points after following touchdowns X 2 and failing both times...these little things make a huge difference !

If the “continuing football action” thing is legit

..then explain how the “Hunter Heave” thing in 2015 against Ole Miss wasn’t thrown out under the same premise. Some of the players thought the play was dead when the ball hit the ground before AC picked it up and started running, but it wasn’t and the play continued (as it should have).
Oh and..FVCK THE SEC

Lil Bit of a long read

Game Thoughts

Sam Pittman continues to prove he was the right hire for this job. The main key in this hire was regain respectability and compete week in and week out. This state is very much blue collar mentally and Sam’s nature really appeals to that.

Stylistically, we’ve been competitive and different in all three games. Auburn saw the offense wake up and tempo take effect. It truly is a case of getting a first down and then applying the threat of tempo at a team. Franks has been efficient with the ball and I have 0 concerns with the sacks he’s taking! He’s still learning his throw away valves in the schemes of this office and we say yesterday he get a grounding call while still trying to figure it out. I’d rather sacks than putting the ball in jeopardy. Briles has also been shackled by playing the best D in the country, losing his top two skill players, playing in conditions that had sitting water on the field, all with an inexperienced OL. As the season progresses and we get healthy the offense will definitely continue. There were some brilliant and beautiful play calls last night that were creative and well timed. The answer at WR is Burks and Woods outside and Warren in the slot in 11 personnel and when we go 10 shifting Burks inside to bring in Knox. Also honk that the only knock with Trelon Smith is homerun speed but his running style is very similar to Chase Hayden pre-injury. Really excited on O for the future.

Defensively we’re so much improved from last year it’s childish. I’m so impressed with the DL. Jon Marshall is playing on fire, and I’m really impressed with the play of Zach Williams, Eric Gregory, and Mataio Soli. I wish we’d have a DG and Coates 100% as well but those three young guys are the real deal. I wanted Zach Williams to sack Bo Nix so bad so the announcers could stop with the Patrick Nix Auburn QB legacy deal and say something about Zachs old man being a former Hog stud as well. They probably hadn’t done that kind of research though. Man we need Zimos, Andrew Parker, and Levi Draper to get it going in the worst way because as good as Bumper and Morgan are playing they just have WAYYY TOOO MANY snaps a game. Need that depth there. At DB we gotta get healthy. Foucha, Catalon, and Slusher are a hell of a Safety Trio though and GBJ has been improved. Gotta get healthy and man it’s really up from here. Odom for Broyles award is real. Before we talk about the tackling issues remember the conditions and understand the material of the jerseys. It’s hard as hell to grab one of those when they’re dry let alone slippery wet because of how tight they are and the dri fit material most are made with.

Special teams has been horrible and as much as i hope it was mostly just a weather deal early in the game and first game jitters against UGA, it’s still a tough pill to swallow. If they’re good against Cold Piss though it’ll all look a little more logical.

Lastly after sitting on it, I don’t blame the refs on the field at all for the ending of the game for blowing the play dead. For guys that have seen countless spikes to kill the clock it’s a play that I’ve never seen the QB do backwards and most likely they haven’t either. But the guys in the replay booth should pay the money they made back and find a new profession. Absolutely horrible job and the SEC’s excuse, that came out way faster than I thought it would honestly, was trash too!

Go Hogs! #BeatColdPiss
