Baseball Update on grad transfer catcher A.J. Lewis

I wanted to give the two grad transfer catchers a few days to think and regroup after Casey Opitz went undrafted. As y’all read my story the other day, DVH said he expects at least one of the two to move on, so I reached out to both of them to see if they had any update on their futures.

A.J. Lewis, the versatile All-American catcher from Eastern Kentucky, just replied: “I have not changed anything as of now.”

I’ll keep you posted on if I hear back from Robert Emery, the transfer from San Francisco.

If I had to choose, I’d wanna keep Lewis. I think he’s the better hitter + he’s versatile and can play multiple positions. Emery wouldn’t be bad to have as a backup catcher, but Lewis can get in the lineup multiple ways.

FB Recruiting Razorbacks making strong push for 2021 TX OL Remington Strickland

2021 Sugarland prospect Remington Strickland has built up an impressive offer sheet, despite it being pretty low on P5 offers thus far.

Strickland pinned his late-February Arkansas offer to his twitter profile page and at the time, he had plans to visit Texas Tech (which hasn't offered yet) and SMU for an official visit. He got visits to Rice and SMU in before the extended dead period.

After regularly texting Coach Pittman and Coach Davis, Strickland told me he's now got the Hogs at the top of his list. He says SMU, UH, Rice, Colorado State and UCF hit him up daily as well.

"I’m really looking forward to being able to visit all these schools. It’s really hard to pick a school at the moment when you can’t even visit them."

According to his twitter, Strickland has a 4.7 GPA which explains offers from Yale, Penn, Princeton, Rice, etc.

Baseball Arkansas loses 2nd grad transfer catcher to MLB

https://arkansas.rivals.com/news/arkansas-loses-2nd-grad-transfer-catcher-to-mlb

I'm still efforting an interview with A.J. ... I'm a pretty surprised by this, but looking back at my last interview with him, he asked be afterward, "Do you think there will be a season?" I was still pretty confident there would be and tried to give him some confidence, but now I'm wondering if he just thought it was too big of a risk to spend a year in Arkansas and not actually get to play. Might as well start your pro career, especially if he'd probably not get more than a $20k signing bonus even if he was All-SEC next year. At least that's what I'm speculating was his thinking.

Also, don't be shocked if Arkansas adds another catcher.

Hoops Fall Camp Begins

The hoop hogs get their first dose of the Musselman staff as fall camp starts today. There's no "contact activities" right now but they still get to be coached by the staff and I'm sure Muss is geeked about it regardless. A reminder that Isaiah Joe is still working with the team until he makes a decision (the deadline is in 14 days).

FB Recruiting Looking back at first commits of Arkansas' classes since 2004

Every once in a while, I do a research project that produces jaw-dropping results. This is one of those times where I finished it and was like, "Holy $%&#." ... https://arkansas.rivals.com/news/looking-back-at-first-commits-of-arkansas-classes-since-2004

(Also, the last time I did this story - it's been a couple years, I think - y'all pointed out a few corrections. Thank you. I have made those corrections and am pretty sure everything is accurate now. But if I forgot someone, please let me know!)
