G-League vs Endorsements

We all know that the NBA is about to do away with the 1 and done rule and that the G-League has become a better alternative to college than it used to be. However, the NCAA has also voted to allow players to receive money for their likeness and image. This essentially means they can get paid for signing autographs, merchandise, video games, and endorsing products and organizations. The NCAA is a much larger market than the G-League (which still doesn't pay most players much).

I think the NCAA will be more profitable to kids that are good enough for the G-League out of high school, but not the NBA. Also, this could keep players in school longer like back in the 90's and earlier.

OT On this day six years ago...

I posted this last April 27, but I will continue to re-share it every year...

An EF4 tornado ripped through Vilonia on this day in 2014. I was visiting my then-girlfriend, now-wife at UCA when the storms rolled in. We decided we’d be better off at her parents’ house in Greenbrier and let me tell you, that was the longest 15-20 minute drive of my life. Little did I know, just a few miles away, a tornado destroyed Vilonia.

Fast forward a year, I’m in a magazine writing class and I decide to do a one-year update on the town for one of my assignments. I spent a day down there and heard some pretty scary and incredible stories. The result was the piece I’m linking below. It’s a really long read, but I believe it’s the best thing I’ve ever written. It won me a “Green Eyeshade Award” as the top student feature writer in the southeast.

I hope you can take some time to read it today.

Jersey Wolfenbarger ( Northside)

My buddy Jersey beat out Sasha and Eaton for Gatorade player of the year. I can’t say enough good things about her OFF the court. Such a great kid, work ethic like nothing I’ve ever seen, straight A student. She’s been a great mentor to my 12 yo daughter and deserves all the good stuff that will come her way soon. Might be getting a new offer soon too.

OT How's it going?

How's everyone doing this Monday? Based on my twitter timeline it seems no one in the world skipped the MJ doc episodes last night. It was once again fantastic. This weekend I played with a friend's new puppy, found the house we'll hopefully move into next month and ate a lot (again. idk how this keeps happening). Ben got tired of the draft after 3 rounds but we're watching Fargo and I'm pretty into it so I didn't mind switching it off too much.

Hoops Kentucky basketball schedule proposal

Just saw on Twitter that Tarleton State’s head coach has proposed a four-team round-robin tournament at Rupp Arena with Kentucky, Tarleton State, Iona and High Point.

“Wow, those sure seem like random schools for Kentucky to play a round-robin with.”

Tarleton State’s head coach? Billy Gillispie.
Iona’s head coach? Rick Pitino.
High Point’s head coach? Tubby Smith.

I actually love the idea.

Oaklawn Park, Sunday

just a reminder that this is the last week of Racing at OP for this year, there is a real tight race in the number of win's in the Jockey standings, Santana is one of the leaders so watch his mounts real close today, he may receive help in winning a race but on the other hand he may be blocked by other Jockeys that want someone else to win the Jockey Standings this year...it happens, especially when so close this year.
If I get any more scoop on this situation I'll post it here in this thread.
