Vanderbilt- Clark Lea- A+
This was the best hire in my eyes by far. For those that don't know, Lea was the linebackers coach at Notre Dame under Elko and took over as DC in 2017. He has put out 3 top 20 defenses since then. He is a hard nosed, no non sense guy that graduated from Vandy. He gets it. He understands Vandy's Academic hurdle they have to climb in the SEC and is hiring coaches that are not only talented but also understand the academic side. I think he turns the dumpster fire around pretty quick.
South Carolina- Shane Beamer- A
Beamer has an impressive background. He has coached under Fulmer, Croom, Spurrier. Daddy Beamer, Kirby Smart, and Lincoln Riley. Surely to God he has learned a wealth of football from these guys. Should also be a great regional recruiter on name alone. I'm also high on Satterfield as OC. It will take great development of players to compete for the East title with Georgia and Florida, but I think SC found a long term guy.
Auburn- Bryan Harsin- C-
Head scratching hire. He is a northwest guy with little to no recruiting prowess in the Southeast. He brought in Mike Bobo as OC which I don't love either. Derek Mason at DC doesn't seem to gel either. I expect Auburn to be in the market for a head coach in two years.
Tennessee- Josh Huepel- D
Very little HC experience and regressed every year. Not the splash that Tennessee needed. Will be facing NCAA sanctions. There is nothing good going on here. I know he is young and eager, but unless he hires an amazing staff, I think Vandy will be the best team in Tennessee in 2 years.
How it affects us
Auburn will likely take a step back and I am just not sold on Jimbo at A$M, yea he had a great year, but that team is losing a lot.
I think it is going to open up the flood gates for Arkansas and Ole Miss to try and make a power grab for 3rd in the West. Obviously Alabama is 1. You could make a case either program could jump to 2, but I think LSU gets back on track. That number 3 spot is suddenly wide open and we are improving.
