Baseball Arms aplenty for Diamond Hogs, but questions linger about rotation

As I mentioned yesterday, this is more than 2,800 words on where things stand with Arkansas' pitching staff right now. Lots of questions about which guys will have which roles...

Coach Mark Smith to Colorado

As linebackers coach. Will be official this afternoon. Was defensive coordinator at LIU for the pandemic year, but never actually coached a game b/c their season was cancelled. I know bringing up Chad-era coaches isn't cool, but Mark was one of the good ones. Him and Michelle are great folks and I'm happy they landed on their feet in a beautiful place. He sent me his view from the office this morning. I could get used to that.

Hoops Despite squandering Q1 opportunity, Hogs hold steady in NET

The NET can be weird sometimes. I'm not surprised that Arkansas held steady with the Ole Miss win/OSU loss, but for OSU to hold steady after wins at ISU and vs. Arkansas is pretty shocking to me...

Baseball Teaser: Tomorrow morning...

Just finished up an extensive breakdown of the Diamond Hogs' pitching staff. It's more than 2,800 words on all of the possibilities for starters and key bullpen arms. Normally I'd break that into two pieces - one on the starters and one on the relievers - but there are still a ton of questions about those roles and even DVH is unsure who will be in his rotation at this point.

Hopefully y'all can carve out some time to read it over the next day or so. I'll write follow-up pieces as the picture comes into focus, but this is kind of the starting point with the season now less than three weeks away.

Story drops at 7 a.m. CT tomorrow (Tuesday, Feb. 2).

Football Leblanc to the NFL?

Per Football Scoop:
A few brief updates on D-line and D-line adjacent moves in the SEC.

First, at Missouri, Brick Haley will not return for a fifth season in Columbia, Power Mizzou reports. Sources confirm the same to FootballScoop.

Haley is a veteran of many a staff across SEC country, and he hopefully won’t be out of work long.

In fact, sources say Arkansas defensive line coach Derrick LeBlanc has fielded interest from NFL teams and could make a jump to the league. If LeBlanc does leave, Haley could be an option for Arkansas; Haley worked under Hogs defensive coordinator Barry Odom at Missouri.

Both Haley and LeBlanc have history at LSU, which is currently on the market for a D-line coach. Haley was LSU’s defensive line coach from 2009-14, and LeBlanc, a Beaux Bridge, La., native, was a graduate assistant at LSU in 2000 and an assistant strength coach from 2008-11.

Additionally, UT-Martin defensive line coach Ryan Osborn is expected to join Georgia’s staff in an off-the-field capacity.

In addition to LSU, Tennessee will also search for a new defensive line coach with Jeremy Pruitt’s firing earlier this week. Rodney Garner is a name to continue monitoring on Rocky Top.

As things play out, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
