I have an 11 year old I-Mac ( 27” desktop).
When I did my taxes this year, Turbo tax told me as i was loading it up that my Mac operations system would not be able to load the 2020 version of Turbo Tax because it wouldn’t be supported on my current operating system, and that I might better think about a new computer. I then realized I was not getting prompted fo about constant updates for my Mac operating system form Apple as I had in the past. Alas, it appears that my perfectly running Mac has been abandoned.
I’m not in the mood to spend another $2,000 with Apple to replace a computer that they have decided to make obsolete, so I’m thinking about buying a laptop PC or maybe a “tower” running windows.
Question is , how hard is it, and what do I need to do, to move files from my Mac to a windows machine? Can I still use the Apple cloud for photos, music etc? If no can I store that stuff on some other cloud that is brand agnostic about my hardware and operating system? While still using my Mac? Google cloud for example.
What else do I need to consider in all this?
PS- My wife and I are very light users, no gaming, just emails, web browsing, some video streaming, paying bills online, and my annual Turbo Tax thing to satisfy Uncle Sam. I do have an extensive ITunes music collection, and tons of photos. But we use a tiny fraction of or 1 TB storage on the Mac. RAM is an issue at 4GB so Ill definitely buy an 8GB or higher memory machine.
Thanks in advance , I'll hang up and listen.
