FB Recruiting Four-star WR Waden Charles recaps official visit to Arkansas

Arkansas hasn't brought in a ton of wide receivers from the state of Florida in recent years, but the coaching staff is working on bringing in two in the class of 2025.

After gaining the commitment of three-star wide receiver Kamare Williams out of Palm Beach Central, the Razorbacks are targeting his teammate, four-star pass catcher Waden Charles.

Charles recently de-committed from Miami and took an official visit to Arkansas over the weekend with his brother.

"The visit went amazing," Charles said. "Arkansas put on a good showing for me and my brother. They showed me all the perks and all the good things they offer you."

Charles said first-year Arkansas wide receivers coach Ronnie Fouch has been recruiting him since he got to Fayetteville, and he had good things to say about Arkansas' new-look offensive assistants.

"Coach Fouch is a great dude," Charles said. "He just started recruiting me when he got to Arkansas. Ever since then he's done a great job even just letting me know how I'll be used. Showing me how I can fit into the offense.

The Boynton Beach, Florida, native also sees how good first-year Arkansas offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino is at his job.

"Coach Petrino is just a mastermind on the offensive side," Charles said. "He definitely emphasized how I'll be used in this offense. How he will involve me."

While Arkansas has a lot of ground to make up to get Charles into the fold, it helps that he has his teammate Kamare WIlliams working on recruiting him as well.

"It definitely influences me because me and him possibly want to play together in college," Charles said. "We've been playing on the same team for a long time so we have great chemistry. So we have been thinking about South Florida and Arkansas."

Charles also has an official visit to UCF scheduled for June 14. There is currently not a timeline for him to make his college decision.

Rivals Rankings Week: 5-Star Countdown for Arkansas targets in 2025 class

From @RobCassidy_Rivals

The basketball rankings for the 2025 and 2026 classes are being updated this week, starting off today with the Five-Star Countdown for the 2025 class. Rivals recruiting director Rob Cassidy gives his thoughts on each of the 15 five-stars.

Baseball Arkansas lands transfer outfielder Charles Davalan from Florida Gulf Coast

Head coach Dave Van Horn and the Arkansas baseball team landed its second portal addition of the offseason Friday, as Florida Gulf Coast outfielder Charles Davalan committed to the Razorbacks.

A native of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Davalan swung the bat very well as a freshman for the Eagles this spring. He slashed 288/.413/.514 with 10 home runs and 38 runs batted in over 276 plate appearances as the team's leadoff hitter.

Davalan was tied for third on FGCU's squad with 16 doubles and he paced the Eagles with 13 stolen bases. He also posted a .960 fielding percentage with seven errors on the year.

During an April 26 win at Lipscomb — a team that beat Arkansas during the 2023 season in a midweek game — Davalan hit a season-high three doubles. His season-best RBI total (4) came on May 14 against Florida Atlantic.

Davalan, who attended TNXL Academy in Ocoee, Florida, has three years of eligibility remaining, but he will be a draft-eligible sophomore in 2025.

Arkansas head coach Dave Van Horn made it clear after the season-ending loss to Southeast Missouri State in the Fayetteville Regional that he needed to go get athletes in the transfer portal, especially in the outfield.

"We've got to get a little better athlete," Van Horn said June 2. "We can't just have eight guys that hit homers. I like guys that hit doubles and I like guys that hit homers, but you've got to have some guys that can run, too."

Davalan joins BYU transfer Kuhio Aloy, brother of Arkansas shortstop Wehiwa Aloy, as the only transfer additions this offseason so far. The Razorbacks have not had a player enter the transfer portal yet. Click here for HawgBeat's full 2024 Arkansas baseball roster tracker.

Football USF transfer WR Khafre Brown commits to Arkansas

From @RileyMcFerran

Head coach Sam Pittman and the Arkansas Razorbacks have landed a transfer wide receiver, as South Florida's Khafre Brown announced his commitment to the Hogs on Monday.

A 6-foot-0, 195-pound North Carolina native, Brown caught 27 passes for 435 yards and five touchdowns for the Bulls last season. His most productive game came against Western Kentucky, when he totaled 95 receiving yards and a touchdown on three catches.

Each of Brown's five touchdown catches came in separate games, with the final coming in the Boca Raton Bowl over Syracuse on Dec. 21, 2023.

Ranked as a four-star prospect out of high school, Brown originally chose the North Carolina Tar Heels over offers from programs like Tennessee, Alabama, Duke, Florida State, Michigan, Ohio State and others.

During his freshman campaign at North Carolina, Brown was spectacular with 15 catches for 337 yards (22.5 yards per catch) and two touchdowns. After suffering a lower body injury during the offseason leading into his sophomore year, Brown was never able to fully recover and only played 78 snaps during the 2021-22 season.

The speedster took his talents to the transfer portal and ended up at USF, where he's combined for 496 yards and five touchdowns on 31 catches in two seasons.

According to Pro Football Focus, Brown totaled 431 snaps in 2023-24 and finished with an overall offensive grade of 63.0 — incuding a pass grade of 66.3.

Following Brown's commitment, the Razorbacks now sit with 81 scholarship players on their projected roster. Be sure to follow along at The Trough premium message board for updates on all the offseason action.

FB Recruiting Major 2025 prospects to take Arkansas official visits this weekend

The official visit train is continuing this weekend as the Arkansas Razorbacks work to fill out their 2025 recruiting class.

Last weekend was the first for official visitors, but this weekend could prove to be one of the most important.

Along with hosting several high-level prospects, there is one recruit who is already committed who will be taking his official visit with a teammate the Razorbacks are recruiting as well.

The biggest recruit headed to Fayetteville this weekend is far and away four-star safety Omarion Robinson. Ranked the No. 121 player in the country, Robinson is one of four Little Rock Parkview athletes the Razorbacks are trying to reel in the 2025 class.

One athlete who was scheduled to have an official visit this weekend appears to have decided against it. Kiandrea Barker, a three-star running back out of Beebe, announced on X that his recruitment has been shut down, and he is remaining committed to Penn State.

Arkansas was one of several schools working to flip Barker’s commitment in recent weeks.

HawgBeat has more on each of this weekend's official visitors and where the Hogs stand in their recruitment.

Quentin Murphy — Athlete

Quentin Murphy is the second in-state product to join the Razorbacks' class this season, committing to Arkansas on June 1 over Syracuse and Georgia Tech.

Murphy plays quarterback for Parkview but is expected to play either defensive back or wide receiver when he arrives at Arkansas.

Prior to transferring to Parkview, Murphy played at Joe T. Robinson. He didn’t put up gaudy numbers through the air, as he only threw for 892 yards and 13 touchdowns, but his athleticism with the ball in his hands is what makes him attractive at the next level.

He rushed for 697 yards and six scores with an average of 8.2 yards per carry. His longest carry was 90 yards for a touchdown, where he broke one tackle and outran the entire defense on the sideline.

Omarion Robinson — Safety

There's not much to be said that hasn't already been said about Robinson. He's head and shoulders the best athlete in the state of Arkansas in this class, and is probably a better prospect than most in the state in at least the last five years.

Robinson has a top four of Arkansas, Oklahoma, Oregon and LSU and is expected to announce his commitment on June 29 with his teammate, athlete Monterrio Elston.

Current intel says the race is mostly between the Razorbacks and Sooners, but Oregon is also one to watch down the stretch.

As mentioned above, Robinson is one of four Parkview athletes in the class of 2025 that Arkansas is pushing to get, and if the Hogs can land more of those teammates, it bodes even better for their chances of getting Robinson.

Waden Charles — Wide Receiver

Charles' fellow wide receiver at Palm Beach Central is Kamare Williams, a three-star who committed to Arkansas on June 21.

A native of Boynton Beach, Florida, Charles committed to Miami (FL) in Sept. 2023, but de-committed and reopened his recruitment on May 30.

Along with Arkansas, Charles has an official visit scheduled to UCF for the weekend of June 14.

Carius Curne — Offensive Lineman

Arkansas will have one more shot to bring Marion four-star lineman Carius Curne back into the fold during his official visit this weekend.

Curne was previously committed to Arkansas for a brief time in February and March, but reopened his recruitment after taking an unofficial visit to Ole Miss.

Along with Arkansas, Curne has already taken an official visit to Missouri last weekend and is set to visit LSU the weekend of June 14.

Curne plays on both sides of the line for Marion, so he’ll have some flexibility as to where he plays when he gets to college. Both Arkansas defensive line coach Deke Adams and offensive line coach Eric Mateos have been recruiting him.

FB Recruiting Arkansas extends two 2025 in-state running back offers

Arkansas running backs coach Kolby Smith has identified future playmakers for his backfield, as two 2025 in-state ballcarriers reported offers from the Razorbacks on Tuesday.

Both of the running back offers come from the central part of Arkansas, as Razorback coaches stopped by in person at Little Rock Parkview and Beebe earlier this week.

Cameron Settles (Parkview) is one of five athletes at the school to receive an Arkansas offer, while Beebe product three-star Kiandrea Barker comes from a school that hasn't produced an Arkansas signee since at least 2002 — as far back as Rivals' recruiting rankings go.

Right now, the Razorbacks do not have a running back committed in the class of 2025 after four-star Jamarion Parker from St. Louis reopened his recruitment on March 25.

Smith has only been on Arkansas' staff since March 12, as he replaced former running backs coach Jimmy Smith who left to take the same position at TCU in the middle of spring practice.

Arkansas has extended 10 offers to in-state athletes in the class of 2025 and holds one commitment in four-star quarterback Grayson Wilson out of Central Arkansas Christian.

As things currently stand, the Razorbacks have the No. 49 class in the nation with five total commitments.

HawgBeat has more on the two athletes who reported offers from the Razorbacks:

Cameron Settles - Little Rock Parkview

As mentioned above, Settles joins 2025 athletes Omarion Robinson, Quentin Murphy and Monterrio Elston as prospects to receive an offer from the Hogs at Parkview. 2026 linebacker Jakore Smith also holds an offer from the Razorbacks.

Settles has an offer list that features programs like Oregon State, SMU, Lousiana Tech and Arkansas State. He’s also taken visits to USC, Oregon, Cal, Kansas State, Tennessee and Kansas.

The 6-foot, 195-pound athlete plays on both sides of the ball for Parkview but told HawgBeat that Arkansas is recruiting him to play running back. Last season, he rushed for 979 yards and 20 touchdowns on 96 carries, an average of 10.2 yards per carry.

On the defensive side of the ball, Settles played in the secondary. He made 33 tackles, deflected 10 passes and caught three interceptions last season.

Kiandrea Barker — Beebe

Kiandrea Barker has been well-traveled during his high school career. Originally from the Los Angeles area, Barker moved to Beebe, where he played his freshman and sophomore seasons.

He then moved to The Woodlands, Texas, in the Houston area, where he spent his junior season. Barker transferred again to Miami Central in Florida for a few weeks before ending back up at Beebe for his senior campaign.

Barker has been committed to Penn State since April 16, 2023, and also holds offers from USC, Florida State, Miami and a plethora of others in addition to the Razorbacks.

A source told HawgBeat that Arkansas is one of three programs — alongside Duke and USC — that are pushing hard for the three-star to flip.

Last season, Barker only carried the ball six times for 26 yards, but appeared in just a handful of games because he didn't receive a waiver to play by the University Interscholastic League in Texas.

Football Arkansas lands Abilene Christian kicker Kyle Ramsey

The Arkansas football team has added to its special teams room ahead of the 2024-25 season, as Abilene Christian kicker Kyle Ramsey is officially listed on the Razorbacks' roster as of Wednesday.

A redshirt senior out of Missouri City, Texas, Ramsey was named a FCS First-Team All-American after finishing 14-for-15 on field goals and averaging 62.6 yards per kickoff on over 57 kicks.

Ramsey was excellent from range, as he nailed a perfect 7-of-7 attempts from 40-49 yards out and was 4-of-5 on attempts of 50 or more yards. His season-best came against Prairie View on Sept. 9, when the 6-foot-2, 190-pounder made a 55-yard field goal.

Prior to his time at Abilene Christian, Ramsey was a member of the Houston Cougars football team from 2019-22. He was named the to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team as a redshirt junior after going 5-for-6 on field goals, including 4-for-5 on 20+ yard attempts.

Across his entire collegiate career, Ramsey is 19-for-22 on field goals (86.4%) and has only missed one extra point in 37 games.

Along with Ramsey, the Razorbacks have Hawaii transfer Matthew Shipley, redshirt senior Vito Calvaruso and freshman Charlie Von Der Meden on the roster for place-kicking duties.

BB Recruiting Early Outlook: Arkansas’ chances with top 2025 prospects

The 2025 Rivals150 updated Wednesday, and a healthy amount of prospects the Arkansas coaching staff has prioritized appeared near the top of the list.

Razorbacks' head coach John Calipari will have his first opportunity to recruit a full class to Fayetteville with the 2025 class, as he had mere weeks to fill the 2024 class after taking the Arkansas job on April 10, 2024.

Even in a short window, Calipari managed to land three highly-touted prospects in Boogie Fland, Karter Knox, and Billy Richmond, finishing with the No. 5 ranked recruiting class on Rivals.

It remains to be seen what he can do with a full recruiting cycle at Arkansas, but his track record at Kentucky and early comments from top recruits seems to indicate there won't be an issue for the Hall of Famer to attract talent to Fayetteville.

HawgBeat takes a look at six players the Razorbacks' coaching staff is prioritizing and ranks them based on which ones the Hogs have the best chance of landing.

6. Koa Peat

A versatile and talented wing/forward, Koa Peat is another top prospect who has been connected to Arkansas. While his recruitment has been quiet for the most part, Peat recently completed a visit to Houston.

He is another player Calipari has prioritized since taking the Arkansas job.

“Coach [John] Calipari reached out to me like the next week after he went to Arkansas," Peat told Rivals in mid May. "He just said that he wants me to play for him. He needed a change and he wants me to come on a visit. He had such a great resume at Kentucky, but things happen in basketball. It’s crazy right now.”

Peat added that he will probably take an official visit to Arkansas in the fall, along with Duke and Baylor.

With Arkansas prioritizing Peat, the Razorbacks have a decent shot at landing the Arizona native. The major issue is that his recruitment is wide open with many top tier schools involved, including Arizona, Baylor, Duke, Houston, and North Carolina, on top of Arkansas.
