OT 100% NOT the Official Off-Topic/Politics/Corona Thread

I will refrain from the word dictator. That's been thrown around a lot the last four years, and its dangerous and disingenuous. It does a disservice to all those globally that live under actual dictators where they are executed for dissent -- China, Iran, North Korea come to mind. I don't see Trump as a dictator. I see him as an idiot who doesn't understand the limits of his power. We've been down this road recently with the re-opening initiatives (or lack thereof) of various state governors. Its on increased display now. This order was apparently already drafted once but the administration doubted it would pass the legal test. Now that Trump is worked into a frenzy from being tagged as potentially misleading, the order is going to be forced regardless. Even if it somehow passes, it doesn't really accomplish anything other than continue to promote the "conservatism is besieged" mentality. Trump has correctly in several instances pointed out Fake News, but he has also created his fair share. If he would have stayed off twitter like so many people in his own camp have requested, this wouldn't even be an issue. But he didn't, and now he is having a tantrum instead of taking personal responsibility for being a hypocrite and a sensationalist demagogue. Not that that is new behavior.

But my term was dictator tot...which is fair because he’s fat

I think they are getting the numbers from 2018s pneumonia numbers - 2600 - through 5 months.

2600/12=~216
~216*5=~1083

Just a guess.
Y'all please keep in mind the lag in reporting pneumonia deaths from the first quarter of the year. This happens every year and by the end of the year it corrects itself back to norm.

My son has had it and now negative. My daughters boyfriend and dad have had it and now negative.

I know of about 20 others that have had it and now negative. Only my daughters boyfriends dad who is 58 and overweight, has had any real symptoms but nothing to be concerned about.

I workout with my son at least 5 times a week and I’m negative and just got antibody test results today and those were negative. I was hoping I had it and didn’t know it like so many others I know.

so if I read that right, you were hoping you'd contract the virus? That's a strange take IMO.

A couple of comments on this:

1. On one side, you have the people who have questioned the experts, now promoting the experts. On the other, you have the people who have always said "listen to the experts", who now say "that can't be right?" Its pretty funny.

2. 0.26 CFR can still cause some major damage. If half the country got it, that's almost half a million deaths.

I don’t disagree. It’s a tragedy. But at the same time what will happen if we don’t open everything up completely? Like I’ve said since day one on this thread, there is no winner.

I think given the new data, hopefully they adjust their criteria for opening certain things and they get it done faster but all at once would be a problem

I'm hoping I've had it as well, I don't find that strange for a reasonably young healthy man. Didn't the experts say that just because you test negative on the antibody test doesn't mean you haven't had it, or was that just another scare tactic

Here was the explanation that I linked back on page 36 (!!!) of this epic tale of a thread. (We are currently in week 21

This "expert" (on antibody formation at least) says yes. We still don't know what percentage of infected people actually make antibodies that can be detected after resolution of the initial infection. SARS-CoV-1 = most, MERS-CoV = only those with severe disease.

If it is in fact true that you cannot get it again and I've had it and was asymptomatic that would be bad ass. I'll test for antibodies asap as possible if they don't restrict me once this second wave hits

You need to explain to our drunken friend @NMHOGG about how the flu numbers are estimates like you did earlier in this thread. He must be hungover today and hasn't made it on here yet
I sped through the threads earlier and just caught something about the "dip" in pneumonia cases. If we're talking about positive tests for the flu, if you have ever had a flu test in your doctor's office or urgent care and were told the results during that visit - that number wasn't reported to the CDC or anyone. Only if the test was sent to a commercial lab or done through a major health system or through the health dept. Adult flu deaths aren't reportable to the CDC, so it would take some in-depth death certificate research (like what the CDC is doing now for COVID19) to get a true feel for influenza deaths.

Idk about that but there is concern about the accuracy of those tests rn: https://news3lv.com/news/local/cdc-voices-concern-over-antibody-testing-accuracy-in-new-guidance
Any infectious disease expert you talk to will roll their eyes as soon as you mention an antibody test for diagnosing an infectious disease. They are notoriously high in false positives (that could have big implications for this disease - IE giving people a false sense of security). As I mentioned before ITT, we have no idea what percentage of folks make long-lasting anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies.

Antibody tests give us all of these people that are tired all the time saying they have chronic Lyme disease.

I'm going in for a normal checkup a week from Monday and will get the antibody test. Hoping I had it. If so, this will be me walking around during the "second wave":

Ya, if all 5 in my house tested positive for the antibody, we were about to go crazy and get the **** out of this town.

Lol i'm never going to apologize or feel bad about trusting the foremost experts in their field over random internet poster's instincts. I'm glad they've taken the steps they have given the the data they had at the time. New data means new insights and those insights will lead us to the next best route to take. You think anybody would let the president role with "well my instincts...." NO. That's why almost every single country in the world has enacted lockdowns. You have to act based on the current data. I'm sorry you don't understand that.

Doesn't change the fact they have been wrong every step of the way. At some point we have to start making policies on facts not what ifs.
Was on the road the other morning listening to Dr Smith the head of the Arkansas department of health. I believe he resigned a couple days ago to go to CDC in ATL. Anyway he was on the buzz talking about what COULD happen if we dont follow guidelines over the next few months. He was on for about 15 minutes taking ? from the host. The most used word by far was COULD. Over and over he used this word. What could happen has not happened at anypoint.
Like with most things when a situation becomes confusing ask yourself what does common sense tell you. When you say the flu has killed more people in Arkansas this year than covid has that is all i need to know. We have fallen for the biggest overreaction or what ever you want to call it in history

"Before Trump retweeted the video, Griffin told the Daily Beast on Tuesday that he “could’ve chosen a different verbiage.”"

well, you think so Mr. Cowboy?

And then this nugget:

"Yet Griffin also stated that “there’s not an option” that violence is “not on the table” as he and other right-wingers protest against Democratic governors’ stay-at-home orders amid COVID-19."

People are freaking out online about rioters right now because of the Floyd stuff, but this guy states violence could be an option.

Fun.
Stopped reading when the headline says "Trump tweeted" but the story starts off "Trump retweeted...."

More small time media liars lying for clicks. Just what the world needs. Not sure why you would validate it by linking it?

Still way less than the number that die from cancer every year. And heart disease. So obviously HARDLY WORTH TANKING THE ECONOMY OVER. Been my point all along but people still getting paid who have always worked from home didn't give two shitz about tanking the economy because their lives were impacted negligibly by it all.

I get the semantics of what you’re saying, but retweeting something is still considered tweeting it... or endorsing it.

wait........... your son that lives in the same household as you had it and you never got it? I thought this was some sort of super virus that would viciously attack anything within 6 feet?

Not at all really. It's not that bad if you're under 65 dude. Really not bad at all when you look at the numbers.

Wait. Hold on. What you just said means that the number of deaths from "The Flu" is substantially higher than what is reported every year. So that means that in fact, Covid is "Just like the flu".

Game, Set, Match.

Well I don’t think anyone would knowingly be happy to get a virus that has killed several hundred thousand people worldwide.

You understand that at no point have they had facts about the mortality rate... they still don't. There are estimates. All they had was the data coming in which was not good. "Act on the facts we have about a brand new virus!" smh

My goodness. Now that is some logic right there. Your saying its ok they was wrong because they had inaccurate info? Im at a loss for words here.

Not sure if you could tell, but I was actually siding with the, "It may be underreported." So not quite sure why the comment. Woo Pig.

so this screams incompetence from the experts right? They reacted in a unprecedented way to a virus. So this should all be on them. How about using what’s common instead of a draconian response? Lawyer’s treat their same system the same way. Use was presidented. But I’m just a random, unblueblooded poster.
