OT 100% NOT the Official Off-Topic/Politics/Corona Thread

Eh, it is what it is. I should start to just vomit twitter info without thinking. Apparently, that is what they do on the "beat."
I think hospitalizations are going down because the people testing positive are younger people. Thats why people freaking out over athletes testing poaitive are just looking to freak out over something imo

I mean, had we had the capabilities to test everyone from the jump, we could have seen how this virus isn't as dangerous as we thought it was earlier and calmed some tits about it. Would have been nice but it wasn't possible

It's that and because we have people who are now able to test themselves given the ease of testing and reduced restrictions on travel, business, whatnot.

So you have Universities who are testing thousands, businesses asking individuals to get tested prior to traveling (I've had two calls today with people who've tested positive...less than 2 weeks ago), and many other demands that have increased our testing numbers over 40 percent from May to June.

Let me try and find a tweet for you to try and explain it better.

Again, wasn’t trying to argue with you. Just think the way you worded it was rude.

I’m concerned because my sick grandfather hasn’t been able to leave his apartment in Houston for like 4 months. It would be nice if people could be concerned without others claiming they’re fear mongering or whatever you want to call it.

Sorry to hear about that. That's rough.

Off-topic, what part of Houston are you from?

I’ve moved all over but my fam currently lives off dairy ashford and west park. Alief area

Did/Do you like it there? I dated a girl from down there for a couple years and it was hotter than hell and miserable to me. Traffic was awful. But everyone I have ever met that lives there loves it.

Sorry for your grandfather. Hope he is able to get out of the apartment soon. However, my comments never once said, “if you think we should protect the people elderly, you’re stupid.” Or, “If you think numbers going up isn’t concerning, you’re pissing your pants.”

My comment was based off three things: 1) I live in Houston and everyone is going bat shit crazy, 2) we have a 250+ page thread where probably 2 dozen members showed they take the bat shit crazy news stories for the average instance and 3) I thought it would be helpful, in a thread labeled “more positive tests,” to show how having more positive tests doesn’t indicate increased concern.

Again, you’ve taken what I’ve said, removed 99% of it, twisted the 1%, and gotten mad.

Sorry to hear that. My sister in law is fighting the fight right now. And she had multiple underlying issues. So we are hoping and praying for the best. We have lost a couple close friends already. It's not a game. And I bet most that downplay COVID19 have not been personally affected by it.

Stating facts isn't downplaying. It is an attempt to accurately play. If the facts don't line up with the emotional response to personal experience it is reasonable to think that your experience is not indicative of the big picture.

You may not have been referencing the conversation going on but I'm taking your statement in context.

Sorry about your loss.

Jesus Christ. The amount of illogical comments from our "moderators" on this board is beyond astounding. Name a singular person that has said, "it's a game."

You're also getting good at this, "I disagree with this person, I bet they've never lived through what I lived through." It started with your pissing match about how many times you've had a gun pointed at you and now you're in a pissing match about whose been impacted by Covid the most.

My gradmother and aunt live in California, my grandmother has dementia and my aunt struggles with depression. To try and mediate this, my family has hired in home health care for both of them. Well, a few weeks ago my Aunt got pneumonia. At the time, we were unsure of how to get to her, if it would be safe to, etc etc. Well my mother in law decided to fly to California to be with her. We basically got in a screaming match with her that it was stupid to go because of her increased risk of going. All ended up well and no one got infected but that was an extremely difficult couple of weeks.

My great aunt broke her hip 3 weeks ago in Oklahoma. She was in lockdown in an assisted living facility so she not only had to go into a hospital at 92 and hope to not get Covid, but we also had to quarantine her for an extra week before she could go back into the assisted living facility.

We're also currently in Tennessee as a close friend decided to continue on with their wedding. So we flew out of Houston...on a new "full flight (all middle seats open)...where everyone is going batshit crazy...to a wedding with a hundred or so people.

My dad who has had 2 heart attacks work at WRMC where there has been one of the largest influxes of patients in the country...

So have I had anyone die with the disease? no. As 0.03% of the US population has died from this virus...that's pretty ****ing normal. However, it's comical to see you again go at a stance of, "X hasn't happend to them, that's why they downplay it."

Not giving yourself enough credit here Woodshed. You're also a mod for THE Hawgbert

Three different Power Five coaches in three different leagues summed up the reality of a conventional and uninterrupted college football season this week as somewhere close to impossible.

“I have no idea how we play,” one Power Five coach told Yahoo Sports. “We are cleared to have 10 guys work out at a time with no one within 10 feet of each other and have to clean the whole weight room. And two weeks later, we can line up in a walk (through) 11 on 11?”

Added another Power Five coach: “If it’s contact tracing and lose a guy for 14 days, I don’t know how we’re going to have a football season.”

The third Power Five coach quantified the chances of a 12-game season being executed in the fall without significant cancellations and chaos as “close to zero” percent.
