OT 100% NOT the Official Off-Topic/Politics/Corona Thread

This makes it appear as they’re doing both given the qualifier of “active” or not.
Why would you say that? If it was antibodies, there’s no reason tell them to quarantine.

Unless I’m missed something reading tiny print on my phone, it appears the positives are/were current at the time of testing.

I think the word “previous” threw you off. It wasn’t referring to some point in the past few months, it was referring to the tests a week ago.

It wasn’t the word “previous” it was the “active” term. But perhaps they’re regarding those post 10 day quarantine as “inactive.”

It says 28 have completed the 10 day quarantine. That’s why they are now inactive.

Shit spreads quick amongst these dudes. Student body isn’t even back.

I mean, the R0 has been studied for months now and it’s between 1-2. Would be interesting to do a case study in that group.

Maybe a dumb question but

Is that R0 based on a quarantining lifestyle or large gathering lifestyle?

It’s the universal R0 so I assume it’s predicated on social distancing. Again, it would be interesting to see if this was 5 guys who got 30 people sick over 4 weeks...or was this 5 guys who got 30 people sick in a week. The latter would not be good. There have also been numbers thrown out there of an R0 around 5, but that was later April...would also mean by now the whole population would be infected. Interesting times.

I don’t even see the big deal if they get it. They need to all go ahead and get it now before the season so we don’t have to deal with the ridiculous over reaction to a healthy 20 year old that tests positive and has zero Or mild symptoms.

the stupidity of this post cant be overstated.

first, you may die if you get it
second, there is no confirmation you develop immunity once getting it and surviving.
third, this disease does all kinds of weird stuff once inside the body, people get permanent lung damage, brain damage, kidney failure, inflammatory syndromes.

I hope that I’m wrong, but cannot see how they can have a football season. Let’s say that the two ‘Bama qb’s contract COVID two days before the LSU game. What does Vegas do? Do they play the game knowing that nearly every other player on the Tide team likely has it? In the event of a player death (fat boys, asthma, etc) there will be hell to pay. They’re going to keep my money, but really can’t see a season happening.

protesters all across the nation will infect someone, there is no question about that. there is no immunity to this virus, if you exposed to a viral shedding individual, the current opinion is the infectious load is very low, maybe as little as 1000 viral particles you will get the disease...

a sneeze can contain 200 million viral particles

if you are in a crowd any where you are taking your life and the lives of others you love into murky waters

Aside from the obvious issues about a contagious virus, this has kind of been my main wonder about whether or not we have a season.

What’s the limit on positive players before a team just flat out can not play? If hypothetically an entire QB room or OL room test positive, what do these coaches do?

Do they forfeit the next 2 games? Which then removes 2 games off their opposition’s schedule as well, which then “shortens” the season over all?

Edit: Spell check

Good points all

I will reserve comment on anything relating to Texas until an official decision comes from UIL. I will say that I don't see how they will be cleared to play. They've already said no to fall camps in the area. Our Governor has already done the people a disservice so that mess is still being cleaned up.

Fred says that UT is considering canceling their Football season.

Dude. There is zero evidence that college age kids are at risk of dying with this disease. In fact the direct opposite. The percentage of young, healthy college age kids dying from this virus is same as normal flu. It’s extremely, extremely low.

You claim all these scare tactics stuff but none of the data supports that. 99% of college age kids are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms. Sure there are rare examples. But guess what, there are rare examples for every disease and virus. This is not an at risk population for COVID.

No one is going to pull the trigger until absolutely have to. UT released this "statement" today.

https://protect.utexas.edu/athletics/

A unique part of UT is our unwavering Longhorn spirit. The university is developing policies and procedures for hosting football games and other athletics events this fall aligned with state, local and Big 12 Conference health and safety guidelines. Health and safety are our top priority, and all scenarios are currently being considered. UT expects to narrow the scenarios under consideration by the first week of August.
