The same passage in Leviticus that denounces male rape (not the same thing but we'll go with it), also denounces eating certain meats...puts them in the same catagory of "wrong" (even though this was specifically outlined as a way for Jews to seperate themselves from Gentiles), I assume you have made that a crutch of your belief system as well? As I've stated clearly, I am a Christian, but I read the Bible for myself and the six main instances of this being mentioned in the bible (when put in the context of the entire conversation/passage) arent absolute condemnations of Homosexuality. I'll put it like this...it wasn't important enough to be mentioned once by Jesus or included in the 10 commandments, so I don't see it as the kind of issue that should be important enough that it trumps direct and clear instructions from Jesus Christ, but to each their own though. How do you decide which things to adhere to and which things to ignore as it pertains to Biblical directives?Originally posted by titanhawg:
Actually...I haven't seen his remarks about being a Nazi...or Islam...or Pearl Harbor...but quoting scripture that lists sins that will keep someone out of Heaven according to those who believe in the Christian bible when he was asked his thoughts on homosexuality makes perfect sense. He was obviously trying to say there are tons of sins that will keep someone out of Heaven...and homosexuality is one in that number. Just because someone took offense that beastiality is in there doesn't mean he's saying homosexuality=beastiality. The bible also says liars won't inherit Heaven.Originally posted by B0b L0blaw:
Tying homosexuality with bestiality is very antiquated. I'm not even bringing up the Nazi, Islamic, Pearl Harbor stuff. The problem with his view is that gays/lesbians are being denied rights that heterosexual married couples are entitled to. The view he supports is a centerpiece of the argument against marriage equality. Over 75% of the US is Christian, they're not a persecuted minority. Having to be tolerant and considerate of different groups isn't persecution or loss of freedom. It's part of living in our society, a free society.Originally posted by titanhawg:
What you are saying is the bible is antiquated, because that's what he was quoting. I realize a lot of people believe that way these days.Originally posted by B0b L0blaw:
That antiquated view of homosexuality is bad for business.

All in all...I believe A&E has every right to do whatever they want because they have their own rules...but there are millions upon millions of people around the world who believe the bible is the word of God and I'm thinking this is all eventually going to come to some kind of head in the coming years. I don't know what will happen...but there is most definitely a lot of frustrations on both sides.
Yeah I think that people that support bigotry are bad human beings. People that support shitty TV aren't great either.Originally posted by LaHoggaNostra:
It's dang funny how each side handles controversy. When it's conservatives they jump up in support; with the liberals they keep their mouths shut but still support their person hoping it blows over. Then we get the perfect people like hp who consider everyone who support something they don't like bad human beings while they do the same thing. If I judged people by what they support then the whole country is bad in one way or another

Rather than enter into a discussion on religion, I will close in saying that I choose to love my brothers and sisters---heterosexuals AND homosexuals. I choose not to shun anyone because of their sexual orientation. And I also believe in the same rights for every American citizen regardless of their sexual orientation.
Got it; self righteous and judgemental people are fine when they support the same thing as you. This makes senseOriginally posted by hpharri1994:

The supposed problem that some people have with a company that thrives of off its viewers watching their programming, and the necessity for advertisers paying for the production of the shows, seems to be lost on the vast majority of you!!!!!
The answer to your quandary is pretty simple: don't watch the network. Either the network prospers with its decisions, or it loses both viewer share and income during that time slot. Free speech is not in question when you are being paid to entertain. Look at Fox Network removing that pinhead Sean Hannity from a valuable time slot. He made Michelle Bachmann and Sarah Palin look liberal, and Rupert could no longer take the loss of viewership [and $$$$$] in the 9-10 E.S.T. timeslot.
Voila He is Gone. Same with the "Giant conspiracy THEORIST" Glen Beck.He found a leftist pimko terrorist under every
grain of sand on every beach in America. When Rupert Murdoch fires you, you know there are severelimitations on free speech on paid for entertainment
This is like saying that I have no rights because as a bald headed, white son of Czechoslovakian immigrants there are no laws that are specific to my details as a person. Our laws apply to "All Men" as in the "Family of Man" as in all people. Many of our laws that carve out a specific niche of people often do more to separate us than to bring us together as a nation.Originally posted by kingtonto:
People keep bringing up the rights of gays like they are a protected class or receive special treatment. Gays and lesbians do not have a guarantee of equal rights in this country, as there is no federal law protecting them from losing their job, being denied housing or services, losing their home and assets when a partner dies, making medical decisions for a partner even with a power of attorney, and on and on. There are 38 states that do not provide these protections either, and this has nothing to do with marriage, yet is about basic protections for law abiding , tax paying citizens of this country, many of whom are Christian, too. Although i don't agree with him, I could care less what Phil Robertson said , but appreciate that he followed it up by stating that we would be better off by loving one another and not trying to be the judge of others. Christ himself said the most important commandment is to simply love one another, and that should end the discussion.
