See last night's TV report on Colorado and Pot?

Re: CNN 9 Central Tonight

Good thing you listed all the super sucessful people out there. Now list the ones you dont hear about because their pot heads. I'll spot you the first one, my brother.

Re: CNN 9 Central Tonight

I don't want to pay for some idiot to sit in jail because he got caught growing some weed in his back yard or smoking a little therefor it needs to be legal. We waste so much money on stupid shit. Alcohol is way more dangerous so weed being illegal is stupid.

All that just to get rid of the "Cartels" ?.
I don't do those things. Why would my child be around them on a daily basis unless I take no interest in my child?

And I would do it just because no man has a right to tell me what I can/can't put into my own body, and vice-verca. That's not to mention the tax revenue and detriment to the cartels.

Then again, I believe in actual freedom. I'm also opposed to most entitlement programs and think the left's constant attack of the second amendment is an abomination.
Huh?

Overeating does the same thing. Should we legislate what people can and can't eat as well?

Thought it was pretty clear. I'm saying that any responsible parent already keeps their children away from these things. I don't believe anyone has the right to tell others what they can/can't put into their own body- and that reason alone should be enough to justify legalization. But that's not the only reasonable justification. There's also the tax revenue argument and the hit that the cartel/street gangs would take with their market taken from them.

I threw in the last bit to let people know that I'm not some left-wing nut, either. I'm extremely fiscally conservative and pro-gun. I just believe if you want real freedom in this country, we should stop trying to legislate human nature.

Beautiful sidestep, a real talent of the ultra conservative.

Im willing to bet your brother was a deadbeat before he "fell victim to the life destroyer" marijuana. Maybe, instead of blaming a plant for your brothers inability to be an asset to society, you blame the man himself. I know MANY MANY people that smoke cannabis that live successful lives. What about them?

Why am I not allowed to have freedoms because your brother is a bum? You do know that there are bums out there that do not smoke pot, dont you? They are called lazy people. Most of them enjoy the rest of society working on their behalf...

If you really want to present a solid argument, you need to redirect your approach. Times have changed...people are starting to acknowledge facts rather than regurgitated BS that is supported by right wing fanatics and big pharma.

The sad thing is, no matter how much truth is presented to you.....You will always believe that your brother was corrupted by a plant, and that if it weren't for that plant, your brother would be a beautiful soul that is successful in all facets of life.

Wake up

Call me what you want. When it comes up in the state I live in, im voting no. I know how it affects people. They don't coin the term "pothead" for nothing.

Re: CNN 9 Central Tonight

Only reason marijuana isn't legal is cause the establishment can't copyright or patent it. Same reason holistic treatments for cancer and other illnesses never gain any traction from the American Medical Establishment.

Add big tobacco, paper, etc., pouring millions in special interest dollars to combat it's legalization, coupled with the prison/police system's reliance on drug arrests to keep that industry booming (yes, the penal/police system is BIG business with thousands of jobs at stake in this case) and you have our present day state of affairs.

Out of curiosity, how old are you?

Re: CNN 9 Central Tonight

Alcohol is an addictive depressant that is legal...and there's no way it's less dangerous than pot.

We also use some serious narcotics in our pain killing drugs that are legally dispensed by doctors that make pot look like candy.

I won't get into the recreational debate because it's so multi-layered...but the medical usage debate shouldn't even be a debate.

However...I really can't imagine the smoke in a person's lungs being good for them. Medically speaking, it seems there needs to be a different way to ingest it.

Pot didn't make your brother useless. Some of the most successful people I know use marijuana. They are not fat, lazy, or useless. If you are lazy and useless before pot, you will continue to be that way after you use it.

You can bake it into edibles or vaporize it. I just can't abide outlawing something because, "it's bad for you."

This aggression will not stand, man.

It's really this simple. Some people just don't want to be held accountable for their actions, so they find something to blame.

Re: CNN 9 Central Tonight

I think what cracks me up we have people walking around and working while on prescription pain medication and people are worried about someone high (same difference). Society has deemed hydrocodone and oxy and others okay, but can't accept marijuana. Do yourself a favor and google side effects of those pills then compare it to medical marijuana. Often those who speak, know nothing on what they speak about. Watch the show tonight and educate yourself.

Re: CNN 9 Central Tonight

I have no issue with medicinal use of almost any substance if it relieves pain or makes a person's quality of life tolerable. But throwing open the doors to weed for anyone anywhere I cannot support. The argument about booze doesn't work for me. I don't drink after a youthful abuse of it.

It's just one more threat from irresponsible people who cannot control themselves. I know all about that. I was never arrested or hurt anyone physically. But I caused great disappoinment in some pretty important people in my life.

Re: CNN 9 Central Tonight

Dad is a very sucessful business owner. Im a pilot. Brother was a very hard worker on his way to taking over my dads biz and dropped out of school. We are a huge family full of hard workers, except the one guy that smokes weed every day.

I could name you 10 guys from college that started smoking weed and dropped out. Bet you know a few too but you wont name them cuz that dont fit YOUR agenda.

All this talk makes me want to go grab a beer....think I will.

Re: CNN 9 Central Tonight

100% legalization, medical or recreational, is inevitable so might as well deal with it and make it positive for our society. I know I will turn it into a positive once I no longer need a security clearance

Again, your poor decisions are no reason to legislate others' freedom. But it's your right. I'm just glad that with each election year, we get a little closer to legalization.

You need to investigate this more as there are still some concerns around this as banks are not loaning money to businesses nor are they able to take credit cards. I think this has to do with the fact that marijuana is still illegal on a federal level. This is an all cash business but there is so much profit that most of these businesses have little to no debt; therefore they don't need loans.

I know plenty of people that started smoking weed and dropped out. They were lazy to begin with. Several were incredibly smart, and never had to study through HS. But it wasn't the weed that changed them. They got to college with no work ethic and it cost them.

I'm not saying that weed helps, and I know it doesn't motivate one to work, but that's no reason for something to be illegal. People should be free to make their own mistakes and live their own lives. The vast majority of people I know that smoke do it responsibly and have good lives.

I'm what you'd call a "pothead." I also graduated college in four years, am married, and have a great job. Marijuana has nothing to do with who I am. It's no different than you drinking your beer.

Do you not see the hypocrisy in that statement?

You feel stress from a conversation, so you go to a substance that alters your mind and body. A substance that kills people everyday, as well tearing families apart. This you have no problem with......really?

I really don't have an agenda. I don't smoke. But, I guarantee you that your brother's downfall was not entirely attributable to marijuana. I know plenty of weed smokers that are lazy and useless. I know plenty who are fine, hard working people as well. Same with alcohol.

I've got to believe that was intentional since you're all over the guys balls on this because he has a differing opinion due to his experiences.

If not, perfectly hypocritical indeed.

I don't believe that legallizing drugs would reduce crime from street gangs and dealers, they are career criminals and will switch crimes. Could start commiting worse, more violent crimes like armed robbery, muggings, car jacking, kidknapping ect. Not against legalization just another perspective to think about.

Re: CNN 9 Central Tonight

Thanks pumpkin. I've got my reasons of why I believe what I believe. I know im in the minority but I dont care. Amazing that Libs believe in freedom of speech unless its different from their philosophy.

Medical mj would be ok, but the abuse of the prescription would essentially legalize it anyways.

Btw, im 38.

I'm thrilled you're in the minority. And I don't think anyone would confuse me with a lib. Just a guy that believes in personal freedoms.

Why is it a LIB? I am not a LIB, but I do understand that abuse of prescription happens with many drugs. People just keep feeding what the Dr's and pharmacy companies sell you. This country is to ate up with the classification of people to poltical views and it totally blinds them from the truth.

Colorado harvested $2 million in taxes the first month of sales. They expect over $186 million in the next 18 months in tax money. OP they said the same thing with prohibition and it is what it is, no worries all will be fine. GHG

Re: CNN 9 Central Tonight

I will be watching. I hope they legalize it completely so I can run circles around all the stoners in my industry while making more money investing in the companies that profit from marijuana sales. Survival of the fittest. Laziness sounds like a personal problem to me. Prayers sent.

Re: CNN 9 Central Tonight

Weed is legal in California.

I got pulled over after I made a pretty sketchy driving move when I was about to miss a turn. Couple of guys I work with had given me some weed for a concert I was going to, but I didn't have a med card not being from CA so I was freaking out. It was pretty pungent so it was obvious it was in the car.

The Cops "Super Troopered" me for a minute then started laughing their asses off and said, "This is CA man, we really don't care."

We talked for a minute while they ran my plates, and they commented what a difference it has made for them in terms of not wasting there time on pot.

Instead of arresting gang bangers for dealing they are meeting the legitimate store owners at police benefits.

It's just a waste I money and resources.

Re: CNN 9 Central Tonight

Dont get me started on the prescribed drugs. If medical mj is a true fix let it loose, but adhd for example. Take a drug to cure adhd, take a drug to get hungry, then take a drug to go to bed. Doctors and drug companies are hitting the jackpot with that problem.

Wife is a pt and she has to deal with some of the pill seekers. Those people....

Agreed. It's awful, and that stuff is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more dangerous than weed ever thought about being.

Besides, a lot of the meds being prescribed are just Big Pharm's version of certain street drugs. Prohibition just makes Big Pharm more money.
