BB Recruiting Conversation with 2021 Johnathan Lawson‘s Dad

Posting as a thread because he didn’t really give me enough to write a full article, and Johnathan never got back with me, so I’ll give y’all the highlights:

- “Johnathan just wants to be on a platform to showcase his talent.“

- Said Muss’s staff and their NBA experience could help Johnathan “achieve his dream” of playing professional ball. Also said the staff would prepare him off the court.

- Recruiting process has been difficult with not being able to see campuses, but “the only good thing was that he had already visited Arkansas” before the pandemic and everything closed.

- said “Coach Muss loves big guards.” Followed that with “Johnathan will fit in his system so long as he trust the process.”

- Blue collar work ethic. Cuts grass any day it’s not raining. Does skill development training or speed/conditioning training every single day.

I kinda get the feeling .....

That most of the 1st team offense and defense is pretty well set. . .

Reason I say that is this.

QB) Franks has pretty much taken all the reps with the 1st string. He obviously the guy there.
RB) Boyd is your guy. No doubts there.
TE) Henry is your guy so long as he’s healthy.
WR) Woods no doubt
WR) Knox no doubt
WR) Burks no doubt ( sorry, soundcore)
OT) Cunningham has exclusively been on the 1st team
C) Stromberg is your guy here. Pittman likes him at Center and they haven’t been sending guys who were in doubt to start to do zoom interviews.

The two Guard spots and one Tackle spot seems to be still up for grabs. Although I think Jones, Limmer, and Gatlin are possibly pulling away from the rest of the pack. Clenin, unless he has another patent disappearing act, could be the main guy to knock one of the guards out of their spot.

On Defense it’s pretty much been the same crew the whole camp.

DE)Coates
DE) Gerald
DT) Marshall
DT) Kelly

LB) Pool
LB) Morgan

NB) Brooks
CB) Brown
CB) Jacobs
S) Foucha
S) Mason

Now, once Catalon is healthy I expect him to end up starting over Mason.
Out side of that, the only possible change that could happen is if Draper were to somehow beat Morgan out.
Other than that, there could be guys like Soli come in on certain schemes and situations but otherwise this seems to be the defense.

So right now it really just seems like we are waiting on a few oline spots to be nailed down and maybe a Punter but otherwise we are close to having our starters ironed out. If course the scrimmage could blow all of this up but I doubt it.
