OT: Golf club set help

Son is 21, starting to try to play (never did before between baseball and elbow surgery)
I haven’t played in long time or kept up with latest clubs, used to be pretty good low handicap but I have custom made Cleveland gun metal blades for irons and low degree Titlist woods.
He’s using my set and they are not very forgiving for him with the small sweet spots.
I don’t want to spend a lot on a set while he’s learning (after he gets more comfortable he can upgrade then).
what is a good mid size forgiving set of irons and/or woods over the last 10 years I could buy relatively cheap? Then next set, after he gets better he can pour some money into them.
Ping probably too expensive, Not sure how Calloway has been recently, would I go wrong with any Titlist set or Taylor Made set?
is there a model number to look for that dates the clubs more recent in the last 5 - 8 years?
TIA
