Corey was on the Morning Rush this morning and said a lot of good stuff:
Evans on Patrick Hire: "He has a great background of knowledge and networking base in Australia. All around, his expansive network and even running his own program at UC Riverside, it's a huge pickup for Eric Musselman."
Evans on Muss pushing NBA experience: "I'm not sure it's (getting guys to the NBA) surpassed winning a national title but it's about how can you help me achieve your dream, which is the NBA."
Evans on Muss/Patrick Relationship: "They shared a connection in Australia and then David Patrick was actually one of the men responsible for the hiring of Eric Musselman at LSU. It's funny how it all works around and now Musselman is hiring Patrick from Riverside."
Evans on Patrick's big paycheck: "It's going to be hard to pull a sitting head coach like David Patrick unless the right money is there, as well as the infrastructure, and Arkansas has both. They get in the business to run there own program so to walk away from that and being their own boss, it's going to take some money."
(Muss has now done this twice, Corey Williams at Stetson and Patrick at Riverside)
Evans on how good Montverde was: "When Moses Moody is maybe the 5th best player on that team when he'd be the top player, clear and definitively on any other team. It's a top 7, top 8 that probably could've beat some high major teams last season. With Barnes, Sharpe and Cade, those are three guys that don't really need college."
Evans on Muss's recruiting: "Muss has done a great job shifting his own recruiting philosophy, devoting more time to the high school realm. He knew he wasn't going to get a Moses Moody or a Jaylin Williams out of high school (at Nevada) so he went the transfer route. With Muss's background in the D-League and overseas, summer by summer, year by year, your roster is going to turnover and that's what college basketball is becoming. Next to Fred Hoiberg, Musselman has become the mastermind of that."
Evans on how no eval period hurts programs: "I feel like I have a good grasp on the 2021s but the coaches, they were focusing on playing basketball. But I will say this for Arkansas, it may hurt them a little less. They had a general consensus on who the best were from their area and going back to the transfer portal, not knowing who's good in the high school realm isn't going to hurt them as much."
