Football Fall Camp Practice No. 2

Arkansas' second practice of camp is today. They'll still be in helmets only. The media actually gets to watch part of it! However, it's only one person per outlet (it'll be me for us) and for just 15-20 minutes, plus I will be confined to a single 6-foot box. I won't get to roam around and get observations from all over the field like in the past. It'll be challenging, but Nikki is bringing me some binoculars to use, so hopefully that'll help.

Two big things I'm looking for are the OL and secondary alignment/depth chart... Who is lining up at safety/corner/nickel and tackle/guard/center, etc.

Anything else y'all would like me to try to watch for? (Just keep in mind, they're in helmets and it's an extremely limited amount of time.)

FB Recruiting HawgBeat Big Board Notebook: September 9, 2020

The Big Board: https://arkansas.rivals.com/news/hawgbeat-2021-target-big-board

Since the last Big Board update, six of the 79 players that were still undecided have made commitments (including Ketron Jackson!), leaving 73 available. Only 28 of them are 4-stars and the Hogs aren't trending for any of those 4-stars left.

The class is ranked 22nd right now which is really, really good all things considered. I don't think they'll finish in the top 25 but top 35 is a definite possibility. Schools consistently in the top 25 like Auburn, Penn State, Florida State are all low on numbers so they'll likely push Arkansas out but it's about as good of a situation as most probably could've asked for. Much rather be Arkansas than Ole Miss with 12 commits and ranked 58th. Hogs will probably finish 9th or 10th in the conference this year ahead of Miss St, Ole Miss, Kentucky, SC and Vandy.

The only major loss from the Big Board this week is 4-star OL Kingsley Suamataia. He obviously had a lot of love for Pittman and Davis but it was always Oregon for him. Armon Bethea from NY and Remington Strickland from TX look like the strongest possibilities at this point but they're not putting much pressure on from what I can tell.

With Ketron on board, think OL is really the last hold up on the offensive side. Eyes will be peeled for a transfer TE

As for the defensive side, if yall recall Cameron Ball was supposed to be announcing on his dad's birthday at the end of the month but he's postponed his decision indefinitely. Not great news and not totally sure what's going on there. Still got a few months but at some point if things don't start trending positively for Ball or Albert Regis I assume they'll push for a flip from Memphis commit Myron Green. They're also staying in content with two very large DEs in Jerrell Boykins from Louisiana and Jailen Weaver from California. Hogs made Tenn DE Javon Nelson's top five with Vandy, VTtech, NC State and Virginia but he doesn't talk much and I don't hear much talk about him this way so don't think he's coming here but will keep trying to get the latest from him. No movement on the JUCO targets at the moment

Done at LB and may be done at DB. They've got room for another DB I'd say but they're not trending with any of the top targets left and they've got a lot of youth so don't think they need to stretch for a target they're not that hot on. Maybe guys will pop up as they play their senior seasons. *Update on MJ Daniels*

Any questions, lmk! What're yall thinking of this class right now?

Top 10 SEC Running Backs for 2020

Even has a tweet from @nikkichavanelle in the article.

For the lazy:

1. Najee Harris (Alabama)
2. Kylin Hill (MSU)
3. Rakeem Boyd (Arky)
4. Jerrion Ealy (Ole Miss)
5. Larry Rountree (Mizzou)
6. Zamir White (UGA)
7. Isaiah Spiller (TA&M)
8. Eric Gray (TENN)
9. Asim Rose (Kentucky)
10. Chris Curry (LSU)

"Not enough is made about the job Boyd did last year for an Arkansas team that went 2-10 and finished 0-8 in the SEC for the second year in a row. Even with the turmoil at quarterback that allowed teams to sell out to stop Boyd and the running game, Boyd ran for 1,133 yards and 8 touchdowns, averaging 6.2 yards per carry.

He was also useful in the passing game, making 19 catches for 160 yards. He doesn’t just feast on weaker foes, either. Against Kentucky’s stout defense last year, he ran for 134 yards and 2 scores:

He also had 114 yards and a touchdown against Mississippi State. With Feleipe Franks stepping in to stabilize the quarterback position this fall, defenses are going to have to respect the Hogs’ passing game more. That could (and should) lead to a career year for Boyd in the backfield. "

Most Critical/Significant Injury in Razorback History

Woke up with an interesting thought. An injury to what Razorback player had the most significant impact on a season or even a game? IE if player X hadn’t have suffered this injury, we would have won this game or this season would have gone differently. Any sport.

And note that I said PLAYER. We all know the most significant injury in Razorback history was (allegedly) suffered when a motorcycle crashed off Hwy 16 near Crosses.

  • Locked
I know that I will be blasted for this but enough is enough...now that we have tested millions of asymptomatic

people the results are clear...as we approach 200,000 deaths from the Corona Virus (that China purposely released on the Western world) the reality is that less than 10% are "pure" corona deaths, i.e. those who died from corona alone without ANY pre-existing medical conditions. That is fewer deaths than attributed to the seasonal flu on a yearly basis. Moreover this virus has little effect on children as opposed to the seasonal flu which kills thousands a year. Compare that with the 300,000 deaths attributed to heart attacks, strokes, suicide and other medical deaths attributed to people who purposely delayed seeking care this calendar year due to fear of expose to corona-19. I completely understand the initial lock-down precautions/concerns because the initial projections were of a death rate of over 2 million which of course was unacceptable under any scenario, not to take any death lightly. My point is now that we know the facts any further lock-downs or restrictions of any outdoor activities is pure and simple folly and not based on any scientific reasoning. It is asinine that we get a daily count of everyone who has tested (+) for Covid-19...all we truly need is a count of those symptomatic enough to be hospitalized and an honest count of those who died purely of Covid and not those who died with umpteen pre-existing medical conditions who also BTW tested (+) for Covid. did we ever get a daily count during years past of people who tested (+) for influenza A or B ? Why not list the number of auto accidents (without injury) in America or Arkansas on a daily basis ? Exactly ! Let people attend outdoor sporting events at full capacity with or without masks...indoor events obviously need further study but as mentioning before employing a negative pressure environment indoors with UV lighting will go a long way to prevent massive spread of the virus...virtually every Covid Ward in any hospital in America employs these precautions with good success in preventing spread to other parts of the hospital.
