Discussion, will we see MidMajors make Elite8 or Final4 again?

Intersting topic on ESPN’s Get Up this morning:

100% of Sweet 16 is Power 4, SEC (7), B1G, Big 12, ACC. ZERO Mid Majors. So the topic was will we see a Mid Major making deep ( elite 8, Final 4) runs or is it over? The point being NIL, prevents The Mids from keeping THIER teams together. They used Step Curry as an example. The “Baby Faced Assassin “ burst on the scene and averaged 21 a game for Davidson, the next year he averages 30 and Davidson makes Elite 8. In todays Nil world , he would have been offer $$$ and Major Conference experience after the 21pt per game showing the previous year. And, Almost every team in this years sweet 16 has at least 1 Non-Power player transfer on the roster and contributing. Mid Majors are what JCs were in the past, with better players and coaching, to feed the Power 4-5. ( For basketbsll, I consider Big East a Power Conference, but SOMEONE knocked THIER 2 seed out!!!!!)

What are your thoughts? I think we will still see some sweet 16 mid majors, but much fewer and further between. ( Colorado State missed by a whisker)

Oh and SEC with 7 of 14 teams entered left. Pretty legit ! ( I’ve two in the final 4 in my bracket, plus the Champ being SEC)

Football Razorbacks still eyeing receiver help in transfer portal

A transfer wide receiver reported an Arkansas football offer last week, showing that the Razorbacks aren't finished adding at the position ahead of the 2025 season.

Redshirt senior Campbell grad-transfer pass-catcher Sincere Brown posted his offer from the Hogs on March 19, and he's also publicized offers from West Virginia, California, North Carolina, Utah, Louisville, Texas A&M, Wake Forest, Michigan, Colorado, USF, Kentucky and Maryland.

Standing at 6-foot-5, 190-pounds, the All-CAA First-Teamer caught 61 passes for 1,028 yards (16.9 AVG) with 12 touchdowns for the Camels in 2024. Brown recorded five 100+ yard performances, including a season-high 150 yards (and two scores) against North Carolina A&T on Oct. 26.

Against Conference USA opponent Liberty — which finished with an 8-4 overall record — Brown made five catches for 126 yards and a touchdown. He also made his longest reception of the year (74 yards) against the Flames.

The Charleston, South Carolina, native first signed with USF out of First Baptist High School as a two-star prospect in the class of 2020. Brown saw action in 10 games over three seasons with the Bulls and only made one catch for 19 yards in that span.

So, what does this mean for Arkansas' wide receiver unit? For one, it shows that coach Sam Pittman and offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino are still looking for a one-on-one, contested-catch receiving threat.

The Hogs added transfers O'Mega Blake (6-foot-2), Courtney Crutchfield (6-foot-2), Ismael Cisse (6-foot-0), Raylen Sharpe (5-foot-9) and Kam Shanks (5-foot-8) during the winter portal window, so there's no wonder Arkansas still wants a bigger body type for quarterback Taylen Green to throw to.

"We need that elite big-man, whether Blake takes that, (Monte) Harrison takes that, but we need that elite, physical, one-on-one presence guy," Pittman said March 20. "I believe they're on the team, they just got to show up for us. I believe they will."

Not much time has passed since Pittman made these comments, but if the coaching staff has its eyes set on someone like Brown (or others), it must not be satisfied with the ability of any wide receiver on campus to be that "elite, physical, one-on-one presence guy."

We'll see if Brown reciprocates Arkansas' interest in him, but one thing is apparent: the Razorbacks still want help with the position in the spring transfer portal window.

Arkansas at Ole Miss

The No. 3 Arkansas Razorbacks (16-2, 0-1 SEC) and the No. 13 Ole Miss Rebels (15-2, 1-0 SEC) are set to play Game 2 of their SEC Opening Weekend series Saturday at Swayze Field in Oxford, Mississippi.

Arkansas and Ole Miss will face off at 6 p.m. CT, later than the original 1:30 p.m. CT start time that was pushed back due to inclement weather.

Led by designated hitter Kuhio Aloy's three-hit day, along with outfielder Charles Davalan's and first baseman Rocco Peppi's two-hit performances, the Diamond Hogs saw their 12-game winning streak come to an end Friday when Ole Miss defeated the Razorbacks, 10-6.

Starting Arkansas left-handed pitcher Zach Root racked up 10 hits, seven earned runs, two walks and three strikeouts in three innings pitched, while the bullpen combined for five innings, four hits, two walks and three punchouts.

Right-handed pitcher Gabe Gackle will take the mound to start Saturday's game, which is the first time out of the ace role for the sophomore. He has a tough task ahead of him, as the Rebels totaled 14 hits, six doubles and two homers against the Hogs in Game 1.

The last time Arkansas lost its SEC opener was in 2021, when the Hogs were defeated by the Alabama Crimson Tide, 16-1, at Baum-Walker Stadium.
