OT 100% NOT the Official Off-Topic/Politics/Corona Thread

Peaceful protests can turn unruly pretty quickly. Why do people need to be out at 1 am just walking down the middle of the street? Im watching this stuff now and there is no chanting, no signs being held, its just a bunch of white dudes hanging out shooting the bull. I just think they are in the way more than anything. People are gathering all day long, i dont think its unreasonable to ask them to stay home at the time of day the psychos come out

I agree that it is just a bunch of people socializing and bs’ing for the most part but to me that further begs the question of why are so many cops there instead of in other locations where actual crimes are being committed.

Judge Sullivan, the judge overseeing the Flynn case and the guy who has the power to release him, is on record as saying "arguably you sold your country out" and asked Mueller if they ever considered charging him with treason.

But yeah, the guy is totally innocent. I imagine the judge has seen more of the evidence than the rest of us. I’ll be surprised if Flynn is let go.

I’m going to bed after this but there is so much stuff they don’t say in that, most importantly that at that time, after Trump won the presidency, Flynn was able to discuss many of those things.

Something you might think about.

The Democrats have done everything possible for those call transcripts to not be released, Republicans have been asking for them since 2017 and asked several times.

So then you have Grenell and Ratcliffe that have read it all, and they know exactly the truth. Why TF would they release the calls if it showed proof Flynn was guilty.

Also, why did Comey and others testify that Flynn didn’t knowingly lie.

See ya tomorrow

I think ive said why a couple of times now, there is no way of knowing which peaceful crowd will turn unruly at any time. Easy answer is the cops are so outnumbered its i possible with thousands of people seperated in small groups all over the city

There is no way of knowing when a bunch of people in a nightclub will turn violent but we don’t pack them with cops in riot suits just in case. Go where actual crimes are being committed and fight crime.

To me, its the reason we have loitering laws. Your example is flawed, those people arent gathering on public streets but in a private business where the liablitly is put on the owner of the establishment. Police have to protect businesses and these people are getting in the way

Love how you are glossing over the fact that he encouraged metered Russian retaliation against the US

But they aren’t. They have a right to be out there. Not everyone is dayshifters. Them being “in the way” is hardly a good reason to use tear gas, beatings, and rubber bullets to disperse crowds.

Virginia to remove a Robert E Lee statue.

This is always difficult as a historian. I was sitting in a group once that was discussing it. The black man in the room, a historian from SE Arkansas, generally opposes the removals. I tend to agree with him. The argument being that we should work to remember those historical moments for what they teach us. Others see monuments as too celebratory.

There was an episode of Designated Survivor that touched on this and it was resolved the same way. One side wants to removed bc they feel it's wrong/ racist and another that wants it preserved bc it's history. They think they come to a solution to move it to a smaller park until a black church leader gives a speech and tells everyone that the statue is staying where it is.

I would’ve though any person that had been in service would be as pissed as possible to know they could be treated that way by the government you helped protect.

Some people figured it out after WWII when they couldn't access GI Bill benefits.

Thought I’d bring us back to the Rona for a bit. The leading study that caused the WHO to stop trials on hydroxychloroquin was fabricated.

Reminded me of an earlier conversation in this thread
But what do scientists get out of eliciting emotion? They don't have an incentive to do that?

Media sure does, but scientists are getting paid based on ratings

Financial gain.

Perfect example, look at Dr. Emily Porter. She is the one whose sister is the "white board" representative. Ever since her exponentially inaccurate claim about the number of deaths she has commercialized the hell out of the disease:

  • CNN Interviews...notice her twitter handle:

  • Placing the following hashtags for her twitter...notice a trend:
#CoronaVirus #FlattenTheCurve #Covid19 #Covid-19 #KatiePorter’sSister #Portersisters #PorterWhiteboards #PorterParenting
  • Active twitter activity only outlining the sensationalism of the virus...which is odd given the viral outbreak which you think would take up even an average work day
  • retweeting things which...shocker...think she should run for office:

Or as those leading the democratic party have said: "a tremendous opportunity to restructure things to our vision”

Was going to stay with my folks this weekend but a woman that teaches at my dad's school tested positive for the Chy-Nuh virus. So until his results come back he's stuck at the crib and I can't visit.

Already knowing that momma Hoov had 3 hearty meals a day planned to cook for you, and had already been to the store.

It's tough bruh. Saturday is a full day of golf followed by a birthday gathering for an old classmate. My ass gonna have to get a room at The Southern Belle, where all the high school kids take their prom dates to bone

A retired four-star Marine general on Wednesday excoriated President Donald Trump's threats to use the military on protesters and his controversial church photo op on Monday, writing that his actions "may well signal the beginning of the end of the American experiment."

Gen. John Allen, the former commander of American forces in Afghanistan and former special presidential envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIS under the Obama administration, wrote in an op-ed for Foreign Policy that "to even the casual observer, Monday was awful for the United States and its democracy."

military not too happy with Trump right now

One guy does not equal the entire military not being happy with Trump. Current military is a totally different story. Some oulde voicing his opinion is just that, an opinion.

Fakeass Fauci now says that peaceful protests dont risk the spread of Coronas, but we cant share tennis balls on the tennis court. Cant make this shit up

Walking 800 deep, pole to hole/shoulder to shoulder. No chance in spreading it.

Did he really?? Lord have mercy. Does he have any credibility left?

If this ain’t the truth. Watching Obama today on his video chat makes it hard to believe we used to have President’s that could complete full sentences.
wow! A dem talking! That sounds about right. How many sentences can Biden put together? Those Trump/Biden debates gonna be hilarious!

Lol, he is sticking up for the military by not allowing Kim Jong Trump to turn them against We The People and destroy trust in both the military and our government.

His loyalty is to the constitution and to the country, not to the president. That's why he's speaking out. You are incapable of shame or considering that you might be wrong, there's no point in arguing with you.
You two lucky u feel asleep. A long hot day on tha lake will do it to ya. Power To The People!!!

Quite possible the dumbest comment I’ve ever read on this board.

Mattis was an amazing hire until Trump got rid of him, now he’s “in the deep state”.

I just woke up my daughter from laughing so hard.

Laura Ingraham is just the worst
Yeah, that's hypocrisy at it's finest. Maybe I'm insane, but I feel like it would be nice if the government created it's own news agency. You'd have to remove all bias and/or reprecussion for 1st amendment use, but I'm sick of media outlets like Fox, CNN, MSNBC, and others splitting the country apart.

Please don't slam me if this already exits. I pretty much keep my news to WSJ and haven't jumped in a while so I'm not sure what's out there.

You got a link to that quote?
I think Fauci is misquoted as saying it, but the US Tennis Associations said the following:

"Medical advisors believe there is the possibility that the virus responsible for COVID-19 could be transmitted through common sharing and handling of tennis balls, gate handles, benches, net posts and even court surfaces," the USTA statement said Friday.

Yeah I think @Lefty8 just made both of those things up. I haven’t seen where he’s said protesters aren’t at risk for spreading the virus.
