This is always difficult as a historian. I was sitting in a group once that was discussing it. The black man in the room, a historian from SE Arkansas, generally opposes the removals. I tend to agree with him. The argument being that we should work to remember those historical moments for what they teach us. Others see monuments as too celebratory.

Definitely a sticky subject. On one hand, it's a violent history, but it helped mold our nation. I think you get smarter by knowing history and dumber by trying to erase/forget about it.

But that's me saying that as a middle aged white man. I imagine I might feel differently if I wasn't.

The protesters are protesting day and night. Trump had them beat back for his photo op at around 6:30. I think trump is handling this thing very bad but what do you think he should do. I’m pretty sure he said the killing was bad and assigned people to look into it on the federal level. If he uses any type of force he will be met with criticism like he already has. I’m not taking up for the shit he has done so far but just curious on what you want him to do.
