OT 100% NOT the Official Off-Topic/Politics/Corona Thread

Let me flip it around on you HoggyBones... do you get upset when you see trashy people at the lake wearing American Flag swimsuits?

Can't really think it's this great symbol of our country but then be okay with trash sitting in tubes drinking bud light wearing an American flag thong.

simple yes or no please.
I don't judge people - I grew up poor in small town Arkansas. I had (and still do) have black and white friends that grew up poor in our little town back in the 80's. I am proud of the American Flag. I don't get upset seeing people wearing American Flag swimsuits if that's you question...

Then I guess it's an inanimate object then. I can't respect a symbol that can ride up someone's ass crack.

You realize those swim suits violate the flag code? They are extremely disrespectful.

If A red, white, and blue patriotic swimsuit offends you then we just live in different silos. Seems like there are a lot of other issues in the Country that would concern you. I have an American Flag flying on my front porch - please let me know if me and my family bad people?

Depends on how you’re flying it as to whether or not you are being disrespectful.

The bikini in the photo violates the flag code. Seems like someone who fetishizes the flag would know that.

Respect for flag

No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor.

  1. The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.
  2. The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.
  3. The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free.
  4. The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free. Bunting of blue, white, and red, always arranged with the blue above, the white in the middle, and the red below, should be used for covering a speaker's desk, draping the front of the platform, and for decoration in general.

Could you ever understand a single point? Just once? Just humor me and pretend to understand.

I linked the official flag code as drafted by US government to you. That swimsuit also violates the code. The guy wearing it, the company producing it, and the advertiser advertising it are all in violation of the code.

It’s not a flag, it’s a flag themed swim suit.

I never know if you’re trolling but this is the correct answer, imo. Yes, those swimsuits look like American flags and are made to resemble, but they are not actual flags made into swimsuits.

That is the correct answer. I was trying to get him to acknowledge that quietly kneeling during the anthem doesn’t look so bad when we have monetized the flag’s image. If the flag is sacred... then it is sacred. But it didn’t work out that way.

The Lancet Retracts Hydroxychloroquine Study...

June 4, 2020 - The online medical journal The Lancet has apologized to readers after retracting a study that said the anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine did not help to curb COVID-19 and might cause death in patients.

The study was withdrawn because the company that provided data would not provide full access to the information for a third-party peer review, saying to do so would violate client agreements and confidentiality requirements, The Lancet said in a statement.

“Based on this development, we can no longer vouch for the veracity of the primary data sources. Due to this unfortunate development, the authors request that the paper be retracted,” The Lancet said in a statement.

“We deeply apologise to you, the editors, and the journal readership for any embarrassment or inconvenience that this may have caused,” The Lancet said.

- Should we go back a few pages to see who said what about Trumps comments around hydroxychloroquine?

We discussed this days ago. Other studies that didn’t use data from the organization in question have found no benefits from hydroxicloroquine. The WHO has restarted their trials, so we will have to see what they come up with. Maybe if their results show a positive use all the Trump supporters will decide to like them again.

I know that old man getting pushed down was bad but WTF was he doing, he went up to those cops doing something weird. Almost looks like he was trying to get them to put hands on him.

Looked like he was trying to return the helmet in his left hand? It looked similar to the ones the cops were wearing.

Don't know if you can believe it or not since nowadays most media and reporting seems to be jaded, but would be nice if this is true... https://www.wsj.com/articles/coronavirus-good-news-11591399491

Good news: A new study finds that the novel coronavirus has become less lethal over the past few months. While there’s no evidence that mutations are making the virus less deadly, treatments have improved enormously as scientists have learned more.

Doctors have observed that the coronavirus case-fatality rate seems to have decreased considerably since the early days of the pandemic. But a pre-publication study from Italian universities and local public-health authorities comparing the case-fatality rates in two provinces (Ferrara and Pescara) during March and April is the first to show this might be true.

After adjusting for age and comorbidities, the study found the overall death rate declined by some 40% from March to April with huge reductions in those over age 80 (from 36.3% to 16.1%), and subjects with hypertension (23% to 12.1%), diabetes (30.3% to 8.4%), cardiovascular disease (31.5% to 12.1%), COPD (29.7% to 11.4%) and renal disease (32.3% to 11.5%).

They say their study confirms anecdotes from expert physicians that “the early administration of more tailored medications, is considerably improving the clinical course of COVID-19.” Doctors are using a cocktail of targeted therapies including repurposed HIV antivirals, anticoagulants and monoclonal antibodies like tocilizumab that lower inflammatory cytokine attacks on organs.

We now know, for instance, that deaths among severely ill patients often result from an overreactive immune response known as “cytokine storms” as well as systemic blood clots. The Food and Drug Administration this week approved a new blood test by Roche that measures levels of the inflammatory-causing protein interleukin-6 and can help predict patients at risk for cytokine storms. Using drugs to break up blood clots and calm down the immune system earlier can prevent severe cases from turning deadly.

The treatment learning curve has been as steep as the infection curve. But even if there’s a second Covid-19 wave, it is likely to be less deadly than the first.
