OT 100% NOT the Official Off-Topic/Politics/Corona Thread

July is likely the month we'll know whether there will be some form of a season this fall. SEC commissioner Greg Sankey recently said it is "probably a late-July time period" for a decision.

  • COVID-19 cases have risen in at least 36 states. Not surprisingly, there continues to be a lack of consensus to willfully adopt mask wearing nationwide.
  • At least six FBS programs -- including last season's championship finalists (LSU, Clemson) -- have shut down workouts due to positive outbreaks. Meanwhile, there is still no uniform testing protocol. Perhaps more concerning: Almost half of the 130 FBS schools aren't revealing numbers of positive tests.
  • Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott said Friday the 2020 season "is a lot more perilous than it was a few weeks ago" if the coronavirus isn't slowed.
  • The Ivy League will announce its fall sports plan on Wednesday. Forbes Magazine reported there is a 98% chance football will be moved to the spring.
  • Division II Morehouse College has canceled its season. At least three Division III schools have done the same.
  • Four games featuring historically-black university programs (HBCUs) have been canceled.
  • The FCS Patriot League is making "rare exceptions" for overnight road trips. That could impact several nonconference games for FBS teams.
  • In fact, two games involving FBS programs -- Navy vs. Lafayette on Sept. 12 and Western Michigan vs. Colgate on Sept. 4 -- have already been canceled. (WMU has since found Stony Brook as a replacement.
You see where this is trending. Time is suddenly the enemy.

Spring football in 2021 is becoming more likely by the minute, but even that has its problems......

I honestly wonder if spring football isn't better for us. Pittman needs all the time he can get to flip the culture.

How basketball factors in will be interesting. Do you push the whole thing back to January, or do you effectively cancel pre-season and just start with conference play in January?

Wasn't baseball considering moving the season back a month anyway? Or did that happen? I can't remember now.

If football and basketball have to be played at the same time, so be it. Football will win that battle of course.

The baseball proposal was for 2022. But...

Additionally, I’ve never understood how a government could enforce seatbelts but allow motorcycles.

One is a steel cage weighing about 2000 pounds on four tires to provide optimal balance. The other is less than half the weight, leaves the passenger completely open to the environment, and is exponentially more unstable. But to save lives, we’ve decided to regulate the first one.

Seat belt laws were initiated only as a mechanism to allow police to pull you over without probable cause, and have reason to interrogate and search your vehicle if they "smell an odor of alcohol/Marijuana."

These laws came into reality during the M.A.D.D. and "war on drugs" peak in the 80's and 90's that resulted in DUI/DWI and drug task forces that raked in revenue for law enforcement departments across the nation since then.

There was - and still is - a lot of money in DUI/DWI and drug busts. ALWAYS follow the money.

So seat belt laws were put in place so cops smelled marijuana? Interesting

Yes sir, more evidence of the extreme paranoia that is driving the narrative now days. Other than Trump and a select few where are the republicans? I do know for a fact though that the silent majority is watching

get Covid-19 and remain asymptomatic are far less likely to spread it to others (as previously thought) but the 20% or so who have it with various symptoms from mild illness to dog sick on a ventilator are "super-spreaders" and can cross infect multiple people...the key to containing this thing long term is to identify what makes a person a "super-spreader" if possible along with of course developing an effective vaccine.

I don't even search the web for my COVID info. Just come here and search RAZORBACKDAVE'S recent posts.

Me: "Yea, I was reading about yada yada today and did you know yada yada?"

Katie: "Where in the world did you hear that?"

Me: "RAZORBACKDAVE told me on HawgBert"
That's DAVE's plan - that you'll pass on enough of these golden nuggets to Katie that she'll leave you for him.
