East Point (Ga.) Tri-Cities lineman Cameron Ball was set to commit Sept 22, to honor his father on his birthday, but about 7-10 prior to that, he decided to hold off. One of the main reasons he didn't commit then was that he was holding out hope he would be allowed to take visits this year. That ban is still on through the end of 2020.
He was thinking he would hold off and sign in February last month, but now, after talking with coaches, and it still being unknown when visits will be allowed again, Ball is leaning towards signing in December.
"It is looking like I might sign in December now," Ball said Monday morning.
I still see the battle RIGHT NOW between Arkansas and Georgia Tech. He talks to those two schools 3-4 times a week he said. The others in his top five (Arizona State, Illinois and Tennessee) are still in regular contact as well.
Schools like LSU, Penn State and TCU have started showing interest as well, so we will see if any new schools decide to offer and try to enter the race.
Looking back to Sept 22 — if Ball would have committed on that date, I feel confident in saying it would have been to Arkansas. He really likes the staff there. Their performance this season has only helped based on what I am hearing. But, with that said, Ball was really hoping to visit Fayetteville. Not just him, but his father as well I have been told. That is where Georgia Tech has the advantage. The family has visited the Yellow Jacket campus numerous times and are very familiar with the surroundings and environment.
Ball said he is hoping to take a visit on his own to Arkansas, and maybe another school or two, but based on what I am hearing, this, as of right now, is a two team race. And it looks like it could come to an end next month instead of February at this time.
