OT Update...on my Torn Meniscus

Anybody ever torn a meniscus?

Last Sunday I woke up at 3am with knee pain that hurt every time I moved my leg. When I got out of bed I had severe pain on the inside and just below my kneecap. By afternoon I had lost almost all mobility and it was swollen under the knee.

I went to the walk-in clinic and they did an X-ray. All they could see was a little fluid in the area I pointed out.

Because of a medical condition, I have to take blood thinner. Doc started me on Methylprednisolone (since I couldn’t take anti inflammatory meds). The next day, my knee had swollen up around the top of my knee.

She sent me in to get an ultrasound to rule out blood clots. I was good there. No clots.

Fast forward to today, one week later. I’ve regained most of my mobility, have finished the prednisone, and don’t have the constant pain anymore. BUT, my knee is still swollen like it was on day 2 (all around my knee). I still have pretty bad pain in the area (inside and below the knee) with certain movement and things just don’t feel right in there.

I’m not getting any younger and don’t want to leave something untreated that could lead to something worse in the future.

Hawgbert Ultimate Animal Deathmatch, Part 1: Large Land Animals (Round of 16)

Elite 8 is live: https://arkansas.forums.rivals.com/...-deathmatch-part-1-large-land-animals.109972/

In this first part of what will be a 4 part series, we'll vote on which of these large land animals would be the ultimate deathmatch foe.

Each round will last 24 hours, and voting locations will be linked. This event will span a couple weeks, having 5 total parts. Part 1 is Large Land Animals. Part 2 will be Small Land Animals and Insects, Part 3 will be Birds and Part 4 will be Aquatic Animals. Part 5 will have the winners of each bracket face off in an ultimate final four to determine the baddest animal out there.

Here's the premise:
-These animals all face off in a neutral environment in a battle to the death.
-1 member of each species.
-You can assume an animal would use rocks and sticks if it is able (i.e.: Gorilla).
-The crocodile is fighting on land (it will get another shot in the aquatic bracket to fight in water).

-Your job is to vote for the animal you believe would win this fight to the death.

Here are the contenders:

Football HawgBeat's 10 Thoughts from the Weekend: Nov. 9, 2020

1. SEC Coach of the Year? - HUTCH

I’ve said it all along, but I’ll say it again: If Arkansas wins four games this year, Sam Pittman should be seriously considered for SEC Coach of the Year. If the Razorbacks get to five wins - which certainly seems possible the way LSU has played so far this season - then he should be a legitimate contender for National Coach of the Year accolades.

It looks like more people are jumping on this bandwagon…

Pittman inherited a program that had won just one SEC game in the previous three seasons, that had as many Group of Five losses as total victories in the previous two seasons and that many were predicting to go 0-10 against a brutal SEC-only schedule.

When I was looking at some win total before the season, I found one that had Arkansas’ set at 2.5. I was so confident that 2 wins was the ceiling for this team, that I texted a buddy of mine who gambles and told him, “If you can bet on 2.5, put your entire life savings on the under. Ain’t no way in hell Arkansas wins three games this year. ZERO chance.”

Now y’all know why I don’t gamble and it’s Nikki who writes the “Best Bets” piece each week.

2. Trask breaking records - NIKKI

Kyle Trask, who as we all know took over and dominated the QB position when our own Feleipe Franks went down in 2019, has been having a Heisman-worthy season so far for the Gators. He punctuated that fact on Saturday with a decisive win over Georgia. Trask became the first quarterback in SEC history to throw four-plus TDs in five straight games. He completed 30 of 43 pass attempts for a career-high 474 yards, the most by a Gators QB in a regular season game and eight yards shy of Tim Tebow’s single-game school record.

Trask broke Kerwin's Bell school record for passing yards against the Bulldogs (408 in 1985) before the end of the third quarter and joined Danny Wuerffel and Rex Grossman as the only UF quarterbacks with multiple 400-yard games in a career. His 474 yards were the most allowed by a Georgia defense since 2000.

Trask’s season completion percentage of 68.7% is third in the SEC behind Mac Jones and Matt Corral. He has a 22:3 TD-INT ratio. Arkansas will need to score at least 35 or more if they end up victorious on Satruday.

3. Kern Appreciation Post - HUTCH

Is he the best tight end in the country? Nope. He’s not even in the conversation to be among Arkansas’ best tight ends in the last decade, but by golly, you can’t help but be happy for Blake Kern.

A former walk-on from the small Arkansas town of Lamar who’s now a fifth-year senior caught the first touchdown pass of his career against Tennessee. It was even more fitting that it appeared to be the same play on which he dropped a touchdown against Ole Miss.

Despite not being targeted with any passes before this year, Kern has caught 11 passes for 132 yards and one score this season. According to Pro Football Focus, he has an overall grade of 66.6 - which ranks sixth among 12 SEC tight ends who’ve been targeted at least 10 times.

Hudson Henry certainly appears to be the tight end of the future, but you have to respect the role Kern has played on the team that seems to be getting Arkansas back on track.

4. Hurricane Eta - NIKKI

As of this morning, Hurricane Eta looks on track to bring a whole deluge over central Florida in the hours leading up to the Razorbacks game in Gainesville on Saturday. I intend to ask Sam Pittman about this today but I’m curious about what the contingency plans might be. Florida fans are hoping for a neutral site game but perhaps, like LSU and Missouri, the game could be moved to Fayetteville?

In the meantime… I’ll be storm tracking:

5. Comeback Stats - HUTCH

Here are some of my favorite stats from Saturday’s comeback win over Tennessee…

~The 24 points Arkansas scored in the third quarter tied the school record for most points in the third quarter against an SEC team, matching the 24 points scored against South Carolina in 1998.

~That South Carolina game was also the last time the Razorbacks turned a double-digit halftime deficit into a double-digit victory, as it trailed 21-10 at the break before winning 41-28. That has now happened just four times since 1963, with the others coming in 1968 (from down 15-3 to winning 32-15 against Oklahoma State) and 1970 (from down 14-3 to winning 38-14 against Rice).

~Arkansas rallied from a halftime deficit of 13 points, making it the largest second-half comeback since the 2011 Texas A&M game (trailed 35-17, won 42-38). It snapped a streak of 21 straight losses for the Hogs in games they trailed by at least 13 points at halftime.

~Since 1963, the Razorbacks are now 4-67-1 in games they trailed by at least 13 points at halftime. The other two wins in addition to Saturday’s win over Tennessee and the 2011 win over Texas A&M came in 1991 (at TCU) and 1979 (vs. Baylor), while the tie came in 1974 (vs. SMU).

(NOTE: Arkansas’ largest comeback victory in school history was against Ole Miss in 2017, when it rallied from an early 24-point deficit to win by one. However, the Razorbacks managed to cut the Rebels’ lead to 10 before halftime.)

2009 vs 2020 Offensive Roster

I’m bored in the house and in the house bored.

So I got to thinking about this years roster and I think offensively, the roster is fairly similar to the roster going into 2009. (Keep in mind this is of the perspective of the roster coming into 2009 not how good a player was when he had graduated/drafted in 2010/2011):
* notes starter

QB
Ryan Mallet
-vs-
Felipe Franks:

Both first year transfer QB’s from football powerhouses who were highly recruited. You could argue Felipe to this point has accomplished more

RB
-Michael Smith*/Dennis Johnson/Ronnie Wingo/Knile Davis/Broderick Green
- vs -
Rakeem Boyd*/Treylon Smith/Tj Hammonds/Amonte Spivey:

I looked back and crazy that no RB in 2009 had more than 500 yards rushing. 2009 vs 2020 I think you have to give the RB room to 2020 with Rakeem already being a 1000 yard rusher going into 2020

WR
Joe Adams*/Gregg Chids*/Jarius Wright*/Colby Hamilton
- vs -
Mike Wood*/Treylon Burks*/Trey Knox*/Shamar Nash/Darian Turner/Kendall Catalon:

I think this is where the two roster are interesting. The stars of the WR room for both classes are entering their 2nd year and the talent in 2020 has the capability to be just as good.

TE
DJ Williams*/Ben Cleveland/Van Stumon
- vs -
Hudson Henry*/Blake Kern/Blaine Toll:

I thought initially 2009 wins this but looking at the numbers, Ben Cleveland and Van Stumon only had 4 receptions total. So really it’s DJ vs Big Hud. I’m still going to give it to 2009 bc DJ has a year up on Hud as a Junior

OL
Ray Dominguez*/Mitch Petrus*/Seth Oxner*/Damascus Love*/Grant Cook/Wade Greyson
- vs -
Myron Cunningham*/Noah Gatlin/Luke Jones*/Ty Clary/Ricky Stromberg*/Shane Clenin/Dalton Wagner/Brady Latham:

I have no clue what the starting line will look like, and it’s obvious 2009 is better, HOWEVER I was completely surprised to see how few bodies the 2009 roster had on the line. With Pittman at the helm 2020 line could be a lot better than expected. Still it’s 2009

2009 Football team went 8-5 (7-5 regular season). That year TAMU was our non-conference opponent compared to Notre Dame. The SOS for the year was #7 so not to far off of this year. This is why based off of the offensive roster I think we have the chance at a 6-6 record and a 7 win season with a bowl win. Anyone want to do Defense?

Veteran’s Day

I have the unbelievable privilege to provide health care to veterans at the Ralph H. Johnson VA in Charleston SC. Ralph was a marine from Charleston who sacrificed himself by jumping on a grenade in Vietnam, saving others. He was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously.

My father in law spent 20 years in the Coast Guard and spent much of his life protecting our coast and serving our great country.

But most importantly to me, my grandfather, from Delight, AR was a punk teenager playing guitar with Glen Campbell and his brothers, when he joined the Navy, boarded the USS Trego and went to Okinawa in World War II. Nobody loved America or the Arkansas Razorbacks more.

My sincere thanks to these three heroes and all service members of the ‘bert!

Grizzly Bear vs. Two Gorillas

The Grizzly Bear's size and claws make it the favorite in a 1v1 matchup, but stacked against two gorillas makes the fight very interesting.

Stats:
Male Grizzly Bear: 1700 lbs
4-inch long, razor sharp claws
High HP
Natural Predator

Male Silverback Gorillas: 500 lbs each.

Hoops BWA LIVE (Red White Game) - November 12

HUTCH: "FYI - I reached out to the UA for clarification and this will be streamed on SECN+ and not ESPN+... That's a big difference, as everyone who gets the SEC Network has free access to SECN+ content as long as they have their log-in info for their cable provider, while ESPN+ is ESPN's subscription service that costs extra."
